I couldn't believe the attendance when they announced it yesterday - there didn't seem to anywhere near that many in the ground. Other than the idiot with the drum was there any attempt from the home team at creating an atmosphere? I don't remember hearing a single chant from the home fans. Ok, so the KC is hardly electric in atmosphere but it's nowhere near that bad.

it was very poor, the fans didn't get behind the team hardly at all

Sounds all too familiar to the KC then.

As someone said above i don't think we're in a position to gloat about fans not turning up, we weren't the best supported team back at Fer Ark, were we?
 
The KC isnt as bad as we make out.
How many grounds have you been to this season with a better atmosphere than the KC?

We was not in the championship at fer ark as far as i remember we always had one of the better attendences in the league we were in.
 
Not a club very well placed to attract fans due to constraints of geography and team performance.

Geographically, their catchment area only really extends as far as the city of Coventry itself and local parts of Warwickshire. So around 500,000 people then, maybe a bit less. However they are right next door to four Premiership clubs in the Birmingham conurbation, so it's rotten luck for them as locals would probably rather travel a few more miles to watch Villa than watch their local side. In terms of League performance, they've floundered ever since they were relegated from the Premiership a decade ago. They clearly still have floating fans who turn up when a big team comes to town (e.g. 28,000 attendance for their home game against Leeds) but obviously when you're less successful and playing less attractive opposition, you'll only get half that crowd turning up. I'm sure Leeds' away following made a big contribution to that figure too, nigh on 6,000 Leeds fans there that day.

Ok i agree with you to a certain extent that towards the back end of BP and the start of our time at the KC our attendances weren't too bad. However i'm sure as a life long City fan you'll remember the lean years in the 80s & 90s. It didn't help that BP was crumbling and the on goings behind the scenes but we almost certainly lost alot of fans.

I'm not a fan of gloating about other teams as we've been in that situation before. Gloating about attendances is also a typical characteristic of the white ****e fans and the other glory hunters that live in our fair city.

Not sure why Coventry don't do what Southampton have done, in closing the corners of the ground - not only does this save on costs (stewarding for example) but surely it is better to group people together rather than have them scattered all over the place.

Looking at photos posted at yesterdays game and indeed other games on the TV from the Ricoh, the crowd looked very very sparse - their totals must include corporates, season ticket holders etc, but even allowing for this, it seems hard to believe this would have swelled the crowd to over 14000 including over 1000 from Hull.
