But getting back to the OP........ I fear that Peter Taylors time has come and gone as far as England is concerned, although at one stage he was a great candidate - before (as I recall) being royally shafted by Howard Wilkinson. Also, he was probably too close to Hoddle when his own England world imploded and was subsequently tarred with the same brush.

back tracking, I thing Teddy would make a great manager one day along with David Beckham or Alan Shearer. Former Players always make the best Coaches as they have more flamboyance which is better suited to the international game where as a tecnical minded manager is better suited to negotiating the domestic league
Like Glenn Hoddle, Terry Venables, Stuart Pearce, Steve McLaren then there's Bobby Robson, Alf Ramsey, Peter Taylor and Kevin Keegan. Yup all of those former players did a truly great job managing at international level.
Ramsey, Robson, Venables, Hoddle all did a good job (for England). Pearce and Taylor have never been the perm England manager. I am sure you are making a point I don't understand, but on the face of it you are making a strange point?
HD - It works both ways - 1; an example of how many former players we have had as managers and 2; a reminder that not one of them has brought a trophy home. To be honest I don't believe England will ever bring a trophy home until we do more about developing our own players, from grass roots upwards. We need to be giving them a chance to play at the highest level instead of bringing in foreign players who can develop their game in the best league in the world at the expense of our younger players. We might have the best league in the world but if that is the case it's not down to having the best home grown players.
Peter Taylor is actually a good shout - maybe the exception who is a better international manager than club manager. He did very well with the U21s. I think the recent debacle proves that a good club manager doesn't necessarily make a good international manager, so why not?
Exactly vimhawk behind my banter there is a thought that he would do a good job, he has had more experience than Harry on the international scene. The FA is always sucked in by the glamour so it won't happen. They never learn that simple truth good club manager does not equate to good national manager. It should not be difficult to see that the roles are quite different. Hodgson has the right experience but not the glamour. Greenwood & Mercer were good the same type as Harry pick the players and let them get on with it. Actually the more I think about it the more I think Harry is the right man for the job but I hope he does not take it because as we all know it is unlikely to bring happiness. and HARRY! YOU ARE NEEDED AT SPURS TO FINISH THE JOB! Become a Spurs legend Harry, there lies satisfaction.
