Apologies Devon, thought this thread had died a death so didn't come back with any more clues. I have to admit that when I started this off I forgot that this was a joint Saints-Pompey thread so it's safe to say that I imagine those of a Saints persuasion would be more likely to come up with the correct answer, especially with the clue that Coventry are the unique and significant team in the list. A few posters have been getting close in that the link certainly has something to do with the fact that all of the teams listed are (or at least were) in the Premier League and as an extra shove in the right direction, the word start given in one of the clues applies to each of the teams listed.....
I think hot bovril has got it, with Coventry's uniqueness being the only opening fixture Saints actually won, surprisingly enough! Of course that's subject to a stewards enquiry from jacksk1....
