I say we have spent big on players.

The stupid money being paid is only because of £ity & Chelsea's billionaire owners, and has been a recent thing. And, even then, stupid money being paid for players is still a rare thing, when set against all transfers that take place around the world. If you take £ity and Chelsea out of the equation, no one could say we are a poor club or that we are not prepared to pay for the right player.

I'm not saying we are poor. However we don't spend big on players.

Bentley, Modric and Bent all cost around £15million and are our biggest signings.

Man Utd paid £30 for Veron, Rio and Rooney before the Arabs of Man City and Roman of Chelsea came along.

Our wage budget compared to our rivals (Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal & Liverpool) is tiny.

Two myths to explode, here (as they seem to have been repeated by quite a few people.

Busted Myth 1: We are NOT too small for Jose. Our club has a long and glorious history; our brand is, and always will be stylish, entertaining football; and we are currently challenging for the title in the hardest club league in world football.

Whether we are a big club or a small club in absolute terms, we are not too small for any manager who wants to win the EPL playing great football. How do I know that? We're doing it under Harry.

Busted Myth 2: Jose will not necessarily only go to clubs who spend big. Sure, that's what he may have done in the past, but that doesn't mean he will do every time he moves club (and given that he seems to like to move on every couple of seasons, he'll soon run out of clubs with bottomless pits of cash). Plus, it's not as though we are a poor club. Sure, we keep a tight lid on wages, but we've shown in the past that we are more than able to pay for top players and managers to come to our club. I'm sorry, but I simply do not buy into this whole "we couldn't afford Jose" argument.

I seem to be one of the very few people (Spurs fans or otherwise) who can see why Spurs would be an ideal challenge for Jose, and why he would jump at the chance to manage us and make us great.

I don't think that the money is the entire point, HIAG. Whilst money would be important, and I 'm sure he would want some guarantees in that direction. The point is, Mourinho is a control freak. Levy runs our club with an iron grip and I don't see any way Jose would be granted the level of control he would want. He's fallen out with most of the owners and chairman he's worked for. I think the same would happen with us.
Some of the other comments about Mourinho I just find baffling. The guy's record speaks for itself. He has made a success of virtually every club he has been at. To just dismiss his achievements as all being down to money, is missing the mark by a long way, IMO.

I don't know whether or not that is correct, NSS. But even allowing for it to be true, again, The Special One is going to quickly run out of clubs, if his attitude were to remain the same. Will he buckle down, or will he simply retire from football?

I know that received wisdom is that he's being groomed as Fergie's successor, but I cannot believe that Jose would want the job, or the pressure to match-up to SAF that would come with it. Taking the United job immediately after SAF is going to be an impossible task, and I doubt that Jose is so stupid as to dare to ruin his career by attempting an impossible task. It would be so much easier for him to take a team like Spurs, that hasn't won the league title in 50 years, where there is absolutely no pressure to achieve anything great, and make us great once again.

I agree, that he'll probably want assurances regarding spending, but (a) I suspect that Levy will give him what he wants, based on results, and (b) I am certain that Jose will be excited about coaching the squad we already have.

As I say, I am firmly with those who believe that this will NOT happen. All I am seeking to do is to redress the imbalance caused by the nay-sayers, who think so little of our club that they cannot make any case, whatsoever, for Jose to take an interest.

Have been reading this with great interest, but everybody is talking about club football.
What about the England job, that is a challenge JM has yet to commit to and he will get to pick the best England has to offer without having to play up to a meglomaniac owner.
Thoughts?

Yes, I can see Jose taking the England job, if offered.

If that happened and "Arry did skeddadle (sic) who would be considered?
Maybe I've missed something but there doesn't seem to be any suitable candidates that would suit the Spurs way.

If Jose came in he is going to want big players, Do we have that money? if not he will get frustrated and leave. I can see it happening

You may be right, YV. Yet, Jose keeps making noises about wanting to come back to England.

...JM to the goons?

That, actually, would be a huge surprise to me.

Arsenal's board don't seem to give Wenger much money to make signings, hence his persistent cherry-picking of youth players that no one has ever heard of.

If it's true that Jose would be frustrated at Spurs by Levy, he'd be driven mental by Arsenal's aging board of misers.

Mourinho's style of football would be a complete change of culture for Arsenal now, too.
The fans would accept it in no time if it brought success, though.

Yes, I think the Gooners would be more accepting of Jose's style of management than we would. They loved Graham, whereas we didn't, for example.

Just can't see it happening. I could see him going to Man City if they don't win the league this year, and maybe even if they do. Man City and Mourinho are made for each other.

Mourinho wouldnt come to Spurs, he only goes where there is pots of money to spend, cant see him being happy with Levys purse strings.
