There have now been 2 instance's (Wayne Bridge & Anton Ferdinand) where the age old tradition of the handshake, has had to discussed at high levels because of John Terry's actions on and off the pitch. We are now looking at a 3rd, with poor old Rio Ferdinand having to be put in the horrendous position of choosing between Family and that piece of ...., when the play each other. Discuss.
The handshake that never took place: please log in to view this image That sneering disdainful look says it all - that sneering kid could do with a slap too.
It was a good idea but given that Chelsea are for some reason reluctant to drop Terry to the bench and defuse the situation, I think they have to scrap it. There's a circus around him every season now and the other person involved is always justified in not shaking his hand. On the other end of things, Nasri refusing to shake Gallas' hand last season for no proper reason other than they didn't get along was pathetic. The whole point of the handshakes mat the start of the game is to show respect on the pitch regardless of any silly squabbles off it and when the FA didn't punish Nasri for making a mockery of it, they should have got rid of it then.
It needs to go, im all for a handshake after a hard fought game, but not before. Im sure the players dont want to be doing it anyway.
Seem to recall it was all about some respect campaign a few years ago. What happened to that! Players don't really seem interested in a pregame handshake anymore. It should only be between the match officials and the 2 captains in my opinion.
