Just a quick question. Now that some of the lads are on thier way back from injury, just got me thinking; Are we as a team more prone to injuries, or do we just not have the squad depth to deal with them? We seem to struggle without our major players, and they seem to pick up silly injuries in training or warm ups etc, as well as the ones during the matches. Are we unlucky or is it the norm? Just wondering like
Steve Bruce has already been quoted saying it is due to our training facilities....although they are fantastic, we have no indoor training facilities....meaning in the colder weather it is harder on our lads than alot of any other premier league teams....We are supposed to be getting an indoor pitch built in the next 2 years...... We were training on the beach in December because the training ground was unplayable due to the snow!!!! bound to take it's toll. If other teams are getting full training sessions indoors, their fitness will be up on ours, who have to make do with make-shift sessions....making us more injury prone..... Looking forward to when it is all resolved!
Thanks mate. This makes me think that it is a higher priority than the away supporter seat situation. Would be nice of we could get both, but I think the indoor training facility is priority before next winter.
Hopefully David Milliband will be able to resolve any planning issues that may arise. Am I right in thinking that the AOL is in South Tyneside and is in part of his Constituancy?
Nah it's in cleadon - SR postcode....his constituency is South Shields....not that it will make a difference i don't think....from what i remember Bruce said plans were in place to get it built
It's not the lack of training facilities and as for the excuse that we have no indoor pitches that's all it is an excuse, I'm sure we have indoor gyms somewhere at the training ground where the players can train. Where do we play our games indoors or outdoors? last time I checked it was in the open air. The problem is with the training methods as SB had the same problem at his previous clubs. Not too sure why this is happening maybe it's the different type of player we have today i.e. skilful and fast which usually means they are more fragile. Getting injured during the warm up on the pitch should never happen with professional athletes, the whole idea of warming up is to do it gently maybe in the indoor training area at SOL or most other grounds for that matter and work up to full tilt. Think back to the 80s and early 90s where very few teams had the facilities they have today how many players went down during the pre match warm ups or how many teams had 8/9 players out injured at a time?
Thanks Talcn. You're right about the 80's ad 90's; maybe we are just breeding a different (more fragile) type of player, or we are more knowledgeable regardign treatment. I would be interested if the injury stats regarding our club Vs other PL clubs injuries. Anyway, onwards and upwards; most are on their way back and it's nearly the end of the season, so no more injuries please.
Talc's comment led me to wonder how many training ground or SOL injuries we suffer compared with other teams. I don't think we are above average in the department but willing to hear opinions.
