I've had one eye on the trial and was waiting for further revelations on supposed deception and evasion. In fact, it seems that it is just this one account and just this one payment, so approximately £80k in tax in question. Bearing in mind the earnings of these two, that's like taking an average punter to court for £100. Yes justice must be done and I'm not going to second guess the outcome but I have a sneaky suspicion that the tax man, in his desperation to get some Pompey blood, may just be barking up the wrong tree here!

I don not think Harry is quite his usual cocky self outside Southwick Crown Court & judging by his reactions to being put under pressure in court by a police officer I think he is feeling the heat. I am reminded of that old quote from Ralph Waldo Emmersen - The louder he shouted his honour, the quicker we counted our spoons!
 
Unless there is a lot more going on, this seems very small compared with the actual wealth of both men, especially Mandaric. Just shows don't mess with taxmen, because they are rotweillers. Redknapp comes over as an untrustworthy wheeler dealer, but not sure I'd convict him of anything stronger than being a prat.
 
If case is proven, can HMRC apply retrospective sanctions for assumed previous misappropriation + interest?...or that only reserved for smaller businesses subject to IR Ivestigation
 
After listening to 'Arry's and Milan's account of things, I now realise that I've seriously misjudged these two. 'Arry if anything pays too much tax and Milan is a generous "gent" who just gives his money away to his friend.
I used to think that Redknapp was a sleazy, wheeler dealer geezer. But I now see that this was just an image concocted by the media and that in real life he is a loveable chap who loves animals (especially his dog) and children. Given the chance he wants to address world poverty. How could we all be so wrong?
 
I'd love to find that interview with Redknapp, where the SKY reporter praised Harry for being such a wheeler-dealer, while Harry twitched and turned with annoyance telling the reporter to f*** off, before exiting stage right, with the reporter running after him calling, Aww, Harry I didn't mean...

Classic Redknapp..! <laugh>

Can't agree with you here Bovril. You seem to be suggesting that a one-off account and £80k owing is small beer considering what they both earn.
I would say that it's irrelevant what they earn and that £80k in unpaid tax is the real issue. It's a huge amount regardless of what they earn.

The quest for "Pompey blood" does have a nice sound to it though.

Yes £80k is a big bundle. I guess what I meant to say was that if these two were really trying to defraud HMRC, I think the'd have gone about it on slightly more realistic scale! Yes I take your point, and Rangers seem to be in deep trouble. Where is that one going to end up?

On a totally unrelated subject, but on the same Guardian page. The worst penalty in the world is worth looking at.
 
Yes I'm a Bitterne boy (in fact, only about a driver and a six iron from Fishers Pond). Moved up here in 99 with work originally. Moved back down to the big smoke for a few years but kept my place up here and am now back. At least in London I could still do the season ticket but Glasgow is a little bit too far.

That's interesting, with most of the work in the south, people usually travel in the opposite direction. I asked because I've been to Glasgow a few times although not for a couple of years now.
 
If guilty, then i think their crime is all the more reprehensible due to the amount they earn. This issue in some ways goes to the heart of the anti banker feelings that are running so high. Its one rule for the rich who can avoid paying taxes with cheats, and tax dodges (personal and corporate) and one for the poor who get hounded if they owe £100, and HMRC just deduct it the next month via their tax code.

Totally agree the alleged crime is the important thing not the amount at the end of the day Harry showed his colours with his i love Pompey no i love saints no in fact i changed my my mind i do really love pompey 'what do you mean all the moneys gone' oh well i always loved spurs in any case .If the alleged crime is proved let him take the maximum punishment for it. Average Joe would get hammered by the taxman because he is an easy target and usually cant afford to pay top drawer money to some highbrow accountant 'to keep affairs in order' if you get my drift .Just look at what the skates owe the revenue it makes me want to throw up when i pay my paltry amount on time Jan and July every year these people should be nailed because if you let someone off kicking you in the bollocks once next time they will do it twice and every one else will want to have a go .He reckons he has paid to much tax well maybe he should be due a rebate the twat i would happily pay the tax he pays to earn what he earns my heart bleeds for him. End of rant
