AllHell or anyone of a certain age, do you remember David Campbell's one and only good game?

We played Sunderland at The Valley when they were leading the division in 1979-80 and they had an Argentinian midfield player called Claudio Marangoni who was creating goals from all over the place. Campbell was marking him, which it has to be said was treated with a degree of disbelief.

Campbell stuck to him like glue all afternoon, he hardly got a kick and we won 2-0 (?). From then on he went back to being completely clueless.

I sat on the train back to London Bridge listening to some bloke f-ing and blinding about BWP because he'd definately signed for Reading for £5M. Then decided that actually it wasn't such a bad thing because he'd become rubbish and we found replace him in the summer with all that money.
Remarkable.

I went to school with Dave Campbell - lovely, lovely (and local) guy who i dont want to diss - as he had 10 times as much talent as i ever had - there were certainly many, many, more worse donkeys thru the years (of which it would be wrong of me to mention a few), so not sure why you would want to pick on Dave.

Hi, I'm a new poster on this site. I just wrote a report on the match (on my new blog)and wondered what people thought about it? I'm 15 so don't expect it to be perfect, but if something's poor then criticism is welcomed.

"Charlton Athletic 1 Bury 1

On a freezing cold night in South London, a late Dale Stephens screamer rescued Charlton’s unbeaten home record against a resilient Bury side.

The former Bury man came to haunt his old club on his return from injury after Lenell John-Lewis had opened the scoring just before the interval. That goal was the first the Addicks had conceded in the league since the turn of the year, and came somewhat against the run of play, much to the frustration of the 13,000 shivering Charlton fans. On-loan forward Ryan Doble found John-Lewis with a well-weighted pass, before the striker duly blasted home to give the Shakers a first-half lead.

In the second half, clear-cut chances were few and far between. For all Charlton’s build-up play and balls into the box, they lacked the cutting edge in front of goal that rested striker Bradley Wright-Phillips has provided for much of the season. The prolific marksman had been replaced by recent signing Leon Clarke, who failed to connect with partner Yann Kermorgant, and in truth Chris Powell’s young side looked far more convincing when he was replaced on 73 minutes by the lively Danny Haynes.

But it was ex-Bury youngster Stephens who rescued the hosts in added time, as he sent Shaker’s keeper Cameron Belford’s clearance high into the top corner with a stunning drive. The forceful attempt evaded numerous players in the box before nestling in the roof of the net. His manager, Chris Powell, hailed the strike as his team’s “goal of the season”, but Stephens declared himself disappointed with the result, despite his blockbuster. “You have to beat the lesser teams, as people call them, but we were unfortunate not to get the win”, he stressed.

Third-placed Sheffield Wednesday were held at MK Dons, meaning the Addicks extended their impressive lead at the top to 10 points. While the reds look set for automatic promotion, Bury could find themselves with an unlikely chance to clinch a play-off spot, as the 10th placed Shakers find themselves just seven points adrift of Stevenage, who currently hold sixth spot. With the League One run-in getting under way, the fight for promotion to the Championship is hotting up.

He was part of that legendary back 4 under Andy Nelson:

Campbell: Berry: Madden : Shaw:

Unfair to single any one out.

Good job. You have the makings of a tabloid journo. All you need now is to learn how to hack into phones and a career awaits.

May I offer a tiny bit of advice? You sound really smart and articulate but perhaps your writing style is too formal. Maybe dumb it down for me,

Why not try Haynes on the right on Saturday feeding BWP and Kermit, also allows us to switch to a 4-3-3 if required at any point in the game and will allow Jackson to slot in the middle with Hollands and Stephens?

Welcome Waddick!

Decent report.

You're 15, you can spell and you can punctuate - I'd say that was a serious result. <ok>

He didn't write "footed the leathern sphere towards the opposing custodian" though.

Thanks for the comments, I can see that it was a bit formal and I didn't really show many views, and I'll try to do that next time. In case anyone is interested, I thought Wiggins was exceptional (as usual) both defensively and offensively, Solly was solid in defence and Stephens looked really classy when he was on the ball. However, the front two didn't work (two big, slow, target men essentially) and everyone in the midfield barring Stephens was either anonymous or poor. Great feeling when that Stephens shot went in though, I was in awe for about 10 minutes :D

Waddick, dont worry too much about the formality - a lot of people like it that way , instead of the Sun 'style' - i would much rather read a Sports report from The Sunday Times than the Sunday People - much more spoken about the action rather than what someone else is saying or doing.
From me, well done. Keep it up, and , you never know , you might be able to start a journo career with CAFC.

Sorry Stu - yes, pretty unfair to highlight Campbell but as AllHell mentioned him, I thought I'd stick that anecdote in.

I've rarely seen a more indecisive, more easily disposessed player at the club. He was so good in that one game, why didn't we see more of that?
