I just think that when he comes up against the good strikers he is found wanting. Also believe that alot of the people who give him positive feedback are blinded by the fact he is a local lad when in fact in all honesty he is our 5th best centre back.

5th? Who do you have above him then?!

Id personally rate him as 3. He had a few good games last season but think he should've accepted his alleged move to West Ham.

What? Most of the games he has played well in he has played well. Granted he was very poor against Leicester but he was outstanding v Millwall when he needed to be as the only fit CB. I'd give him an 8.

I think you have to be a bit flexible when discussing someone like Martin. He is still learning his trade.......he gives 110%. Yes as someone else has said he is guilty of ball watching at times a mark of inexperience. He will have probably 15 excellent games about 4 mediocre games and one bad one. Yes he had a bad one against Leicester....he was up against two pretty lethal strikers to be honest. I doubt there is a centre half in the country that will not have a bad game against someone. Despite he is a late learner he will be one of the best, certainly in the top twenty CB in the country by this time next year. (Obviously as long as they keep playing him) That is the kind of faith I have in him!

I would rate him at 7/8 but I've only seem him first hand in a few matches but to me he looked so much better than Dan Seaborne after watching him in a few games last season. Yes he young and still learning, definitely needs the experience beside him like fonte or hoovield. Great player! COYR's

I'd give him a solid 8, he's really impressed me. Looked nervy in the first game against Leeds but didn't let us down (the penalty was awfully harsh), and has grown in stature and confidence since then. Fonte being injured for so long could have been disastrous but Martin has stepped in and done at least as well as him, and that speaks volumes.

His first game this season he was shocking, I was having kittens everytime the ball went hear him. However, he's a work in progress and is getting there. Think the marking a little high by others. But like I said he is getting there. Unlike Chris Baird, bless him, but then again he had a helluva starting debut!

Would give him an 8, as for 5th best centre back.............. For me:
1. Fonte/Hoover
3. Martin
4. Jaidi/Seaborne

Fonte, Hoover, Jaidi and Seaborne are all, in my opinion better defenders. Maybe 3 was a bit harsh but no higher then 5. I think to say he would be in the top 20 centre backs in England is a bit extreme. When everybody was fully fit he was behind Seaborne in the pecking order and i don't think Seaborne will ever be a Premiership defender.

He was behind Seaborne yeah, but having established himself as a capable first-team player (and who knows where Seaborne will be when he can play again), I don't think he is anymore.

At 22, Martin is still young for a defender, and if he continues to improve he can certainly be capable of playing regularly in the premier league. I don't really understand how you can rate him so poorly.

I just think that he doesn't have the pace required to play centre back and although quite strong can sometimes be bullied a bit. As for the Leeds game, i recall him giving away two early needless corners and although it was a harsh decision for the penalty as a defender you should know you cant jump in in the area with your arms in the air.

Ok, that's Martin done.

So for your next thread, which player will we be analysing?

Aaron Martin made his first team debut about 18 months ago. Thats nothing in football. He has since played around 20 games including substitue appearences. He has had one poor game.

He is a young player from non-league, who is alwasy getting better the more he plays - this run in the side has really improved him and he is only going to get better. Can't see Seaborne coming back with us, so I think Martin will be ahead of him and he has a bright future in the game.

Rich is there some sort of personal vendetta here? This is twice you have undermined my posts. I was only asking as i am unsure as to whether i am missing something with him and whether the fans prefer him or Seaborne.
