I have stated the nicest restaurants in Southampton with my first post. The fact people are talking about subway as if it's high end cuisine is quite frankly, disturbing. Your grand daughters, provided they are over 18 years of age would no doubt enjoy themselves, experiencing the finer things in life, if they were on a date with the one Joey B.

Even with your high flying job in the financial sector I don't think you could afford them. These girls are literally used to the champagne life style. A handsome man with a fat wallet, impeccable manners and taste with a top of the range motor car are the very minimum they expect. In other words they are looking for someone just like their grandfather.

PS Is it really true Joey B that you are the young lad I spoke to working as a cashier in the Marks and Spencer's currency shop?

Joey B this is the one and only time I will ever agree with anything you have ever said. Bristol is a very pleasant city and a place I love visiting. It helps to have Bristolian friends of course.

I got taken to TGIs in Times Square New York once as a guest. It was my worst experience ever and i complained like mad. So they gave me a stack of vouchers to pay for my meal on my next visit. They went straight in the bin. For God's sake TGIs! Don't you guys want to eat decent food?
 
These fast food joints provide a useful service Godders, even if you don't eat in them.

Now, are there any decent, non chain French restaurants in Southampton?

We have one in Southsea to die for, the Bistro Montparnasse. I used to live next door to it, many years ago.

I only eat small meals, like starters, so good restaurants are lost on me. But I do like to go to Gunwharf Quays on a sunny day...don't know it's name but there is a converted old building by the inlet that serves nice food. Always feels a bit like a holiday sitting there on a sunny day watching the boats come in.

There is a Jamie's italian, just up the way now, eeuurggh.

Pukka! Choice, I'm a cockney, I'm a cockney geezer.

Someone at work went there and had Jamie's pukka, chunky, geezer chips, or what ever they are called. Do you know how many chips for ££+?

Old Custom House...that's it, thanks. Saw a TV programme where they said they always unloaded the guns when ships were in port and stored them on the quay there..so Gun Wharf Quays is just what it says on the tin.
 
When I head down south to see the folks, we enjoy Keats in Ampfield which is a firm favourite. Regginas in Botley is also worth a trip.

Although I'm not sure if Botley has a Subway or not <whistle>

Regginas is good and has a "sister" restaurant called Toscas (?) next to the Mayflower which is good Italian food with a proper "Tony" manager.
White Star Hotel and Oxfords in Oxford Street are both excellent but pricey.

Basically, if you're not bothered about booking, wander down to Oxford Street (almost opposite the old Dock Gate 4) and take a look - it caters for everyone!
