    Winchester now has a subway, as I found to my delight on my first night out there in years! More importantly there is a 24hr subway just outside work, 3am meatball marinara is heaven!!! On a serious note, there are two new eateries in winch linked called the Bengal sage and Bangkok brasserie I think. Both very highly rated

    <laugh>

    Never tried those places but it all depends what you want. There are countless places in Winch that do a damn good steak <ok>

    You clearly haven't read my posts in this thread then. I very rarely go for the KFC, McDonalds, Subway option. The last one I had was a BK about 4 months back...

    I have stated the nicest restaurants in Southampton with my first post. The fact people are talking about subway as if it's high end cuisine is quite frankly, disturbing. Your grand daughters, provided they are over 18 years of age would no doubt enjoy themselves, experiencing the finer things in life, if they were on a date with the one Joey B.

    One place to generally avoid in Winchester is the Pitcher & the Piano. Especially if you're looking for a good night out.

    For food I would most definitely avoid it. It's not a bad place on student night though ;)

    Went there on student night, was pretty decent once it got going but the queue and bouncers combined were terrible! Decent pool of ladies though <laugh>

    Yeah, The queue there is usually quite manic but I think it's worth it. Easily to lose people in such a small place though as it's one big circle if the yard is open. Winch has always had its fair share of nice looking ladies :D

    Have you tried a student night there?

    Many apologies for lowering the standards Joey B, I did mention Subway near the begining of the thread however it was with the utmost irony - For a proper meal, I'd go somewhere that supplies cutlery

    No, I went to Uni in Bristol. Why would I tarnish my memories of student nights with a sub-standard night in Winch? Bristol is constantly voted one of the best places to be a student, I personally think it is the best.

    I trained in a very good kitchen Joey, so I know my way around fine dining - nice to see that some others do too. I made a mental note of one or two of your suggestions for when I am in Southampton for more than just fast food and football.

    If I were you, I would look further afield, that's the best Southampton has to offer. Actually forgot Ennio's, do a very good steak! If you're willing to drive 30 mins outside of the city there are other and in some instances, better options. All in my opinion of course.

    I did my degree at University of Bristol, absolutely agree with you - amazing nights out and great eateries.

    Seafood is what I really like, so any tips would be good. I already live in Wiltshire so 30 miles out of Soton is a potentially a shorter trip. I'm spoilt for choice by really good pub/restaurants near me - that ones that shamelessly charge £20 for Sunday lunch for just one course, because they know it's worth it. Top restaurants are thinner on the ground though so I have to make a special trip. The Goa Balti right out in the sticks in Everleigh, Wiltshire is one of the best Indians for miles though and has won numerous awards
