I know many Arsenal and Chelsea fans will say 'deluded' when they read this but I still think we can catch Man City. These are the facts: after 2 games we were 6 points behind them and after 22 we are eight points behind them. But in the last few games if we had had three correct offside decisons and Ballotelli had been sent off (and he would have been if Webb had seen the incident or he wouldn't have been charged), then we would have had six more points and Man City would have had two fewer. So we've played well enough to get six more points than them over 20 games, if only the officials had been doing their job. If we also make the admittedly heroic leap of saying we could have actually won the Stoke and Man City games after players had been correctly sent off then we would now be five points clear at the top having made up 11 points in 20 games. This equates almost exactly to making up 9 points over 16 games which is 'all' we need to be champions. So if we both maintain our current form and we get the 'correct' refereeing decisons we should just about make it. In reality of course that is all a bit far-fetched and we are likely to end up third, or even lower if we get some more injuries, but it is certainly not impossible.
Extremely unlikely. Even less likely to catch both City and Utd. We need to sort our squad out and then carry on winning as many games as we can. Stay in the top 4 and then try to push on from there next season.
If 'ifs' and 'buts' were raisins and nuts it would be Christmas every day. We are equal to City in my view, but it's just not to be this year, I don't think. The amazing thing is we've got this far without ever playing THAT well.
I like your theory, but unfortunately for Spurs, the chance of refereeing decisions being given correctly in our favour during the remainder of the season is extremely slim. We`ve played 22 games and been robbed of 8 points already, who knows how many more points will be wrongly taken away.
I don't think so - 3rd is our highest realistic target now. Top 4 is, and always has been, our top priority - however, based on the first 22 games, we really should be getting 3rd - which still represents a great finish for us. If you'd offered any one of the Spurs fans on here 3rd at the start of the season (moreso after the first 2 games) they'd have bit your hand off for it.
that's what you got to do to win the league...and it doesnt neccesserily just hinge on them 3 games......Sunderland away is just as hard as the liverpool away if not more so...theres a big myth about Liverpool for some reason...i dont rate them too much...and if Arsenal carry on the way they are going then god knows what kind of mess they will when we face them....i dont think its anything to do with fixtures...if the ****ing referees could earn their wage and do their job then we wouldnt be discussing this as we would be totally confident. good point by Stan Collymore....its ok banning Ballotelli to punish city but what is the recompense for Spurs who lost points due to the ****ING ref's incompetence..and dont get me started on that Klingon's elbow.
If Harry escapes going to jail, then I think we have every chance of winning the title. If he has to do some bird, I think we could even struggle to hang on to a top 4 place, as I am not impressed at the thought of Jordan and Bond standing in for him.
Timid? - Naturally if this had been United, it would have been keeping things tight, and ease yourself into the game, keep possesion and silence the crowd. Kompany's absence for City cancels out Adebayor's ineligibility, but still we did something no other team has done this season, and thats score 2 goals at the Etihad. We're not done for yet, as all the others have Euro football to contend with soon...aye Luke!
No., we will not win the title this year. Our chance went North during the Stoke debacle. It has now gone further North,. North West after the latest 'piss take.'
Then starting the sentence with both was perhaps unwise. The 1st half looked like a game neither wanted to lose, how many times have we seen top4 games start like that...plenty. Teams have blown such points leads before, not saying they will, nor that we'll be in a position to pick up the pieces, we might, but thats all there is to say at this point of the season.
The Standard is writing us off, despite being eight points behind with 16 games remaining - so apparently we should only bring up Newcastle's capitulation to discuss Man Utd winning the league, and no-one else...
we should be top if the ref's so incompetent another at least point lost because the referee's not up to the job.How on earth he's a fifa ref is beyond me he did'nt even send de jong? off for that chest high kick in the wc final
I'm always optimistic. Until it's mathematically impossible I'll remain hopeful. Of course it's extremely doubtful, what I've noticed about City is they seem to finish any chance they get, even if it's half a chance, where as us for instance, tend to have something like 1 goal every 7 shots (not an actual stat, just a rough estimation) which makes our task seem a lot harder than what it should be. We dominate most games we play yet 90% of the time, the scoreline doesn't reflect that, even if we still come away with 3 points.
IF Kompany had not wrongly sent off 2 weeks ago Savic would not have been there to gift you your 2 goals! we all get **** decisions except you know who! the media and the FA will ensure they do all in there power to help them to another title! Like you at Stoke and us at Chelsea we are seen to be gatecrashing the Wenger/Fergie party, C***s
Odd - I thought he'd appealed and the sending off stood: so how was it wrong? All the decisions in my OP were factually incorrect - Webb has admitted the Balotelli one and the others were offside decisions. None of these is a matter of opinion
Surely if he is found guilty but doesn't go to gaol then he will be banned by the FA? Same as George Graham? Name change on the horizon
Jordan and bond did just fine when he was ill. I hope he aint guilty cos i dont want him to be a bad guy but i dont think we should under estimate our back room staff. As for winning the title...dont think so but then again i never thought we'd be 10 pts clear of 5th place so i aint grumbling ... Coys
Kompany wasn't incorrectly dismissed, though. What he did was a red card, by the letter of the law. It was definitely harsh, but it wasn't just plainly wrong.
