I love how he says our great teams of the last 30 years. When was the last time 1p5wich had a "great" team?
warky, when you suggest great sides of the last 30 years, what you actually mean is either your one side from 1962 or your side from about 1974-1982, right? so more than 30 years ago right? give it up. you had a fairly good side under burley, a side which i would say holt would have got in to be fair, unless you are suggesting holt isn't as good as scowcroft or alun armstrong, and other than that your club has done little to nothing
thing is carra, we are all aware that ipswich did indeed have a very good team, under the 'even popular in norfolk' sir bobby robson, but it was so long ago, i really fail to see how it affects most fans today. wolves had a great team when my granddad was going to football but how relevant is that today now they are in the bottom 3? if he was lucky enough to have been around to witness them winning things then fair enough but for me, someone born after they won anything, its completely meaningless. ipswich have been piss poor at football for almost my entire life - thats 30 years, only interupted by them having a brief foray into the top flight for a couple of years here or there. football has changed dramatically in the time since ipswich were actually very good and they have been left behind. its all very well them all saying 'you're only doing well cos of lambert' but didn't they only do well cos of robson and ramsey before him? honestly its so pointless. yes be proud of your clubs history but trying to somehow remind us of it when most of us weren't alive to know about it is boring
He would never have got into the Burley side that finished 5th in the Premiership! We would have had no need for him in the 04/05 side either when we had Darren Bent & Shefki Kuqi up front that scored 46 goals between them that year. Holt is no better than Scowie who chipped in with a few!
The thing you fail to realise, JWM, is that Holt is not just a scorer. He assists, and most importantly he leads the team. Something Scowcroft and Kuqi could never of been accused of. I can't believe I'm comparing Holt with Kuqi and Scowcroft Plus, he gets a few penalties awarded for us too, oh and the odd red card for the opposition.
Oh so between 1995 and 2009 you lot were **** hot I suppose! You stumbled across Lambert and if it wasn't for him you would still be in League 1 now. I admire you for what you have achieved but do spare us all the sanctimonius bollocks! You had nothing before he came and your club was heading into oblivion like ours is now! Perhaps the last 3 good years have coloured your take on all the dross you had for the 14 years before it! I used to work for a Norwich fan at work in the mid 90s when we both went down the same year. We then had a bet each season as to who would finish higher in the league and then to make it interesting an extra £100 on top for promotion. The poor bastard never won a bet with me and he died in 2004!
warky, come off it mate!! scowcroft is nowhere near as good a footballer as holt! marcus stewart was excellent but scowcroft and armstrong were not good players. and shefki kuqi??? that has to be a bloody joke! i know i am biased and i know you are biased against us but in all seriousness to say holt wouldn't get in that team is nonsense
nope, but we were a constant in the top flight before that. you said in the past 30 years - we've spent far longer in the top flight than ipswich in the past 30 years!! i was responding to your own comment!! its an utterly idiotic response from yourself re: falling upon lambert. so i suppose robson was chiselled from a suffolk punch was he? for gods sake, every club needs a bit of luck to get a good manager - there aren't many of them about! ipswich were remarkably lucky to get robson, lucky to keep him seeing as he wanted to go to everton as i understand it but it fell through, lucky that he wasn't sacked when fans wanted him out, lucky that he was manager in an era where wealth wasn't the key to success... if lambert was manager of norwich in the 70s i wouldn't have bet against him propelling us up to the top of the league - you got very lucky, just as we are lucky now.
The difference between Robson and Lambert is that we didn't knick him off a rival club. We gave Bobby a chance when no one else would the same as with Alf Ramsey
well thats pretty irrelevant when you consider their talents as a manager, don't you think? you seemed to rate burley yet i seem to remember you nicked him off, oh yes, colchester
since when are Colchester a rival? Lambert just needed a chance at a big club, he'd have got the chance eventually, the cream of the crop always rises to the top. Thats why you've got Jewell
maybe, one day, you can boast a manager with the tiniest percentage of talent that Lambert has. Till that time, you are the poor cousins
