Well done to Sunderland. Two brilliant finishes, and tactics worked better than most other teams against us. I think Sunderland have got one of the best managers around at the moment, and I think you guys have got a good few years of success ahead of you if he stays. I reckon qualification for Europa League is not too unrealistic if the right players are brought in, and that would have been unthinkable under Steve Bruce.
Pressed us really high for the first twenty minutes, by which time Sessegnon had scored an awesome goal, and then sat deeper than any other team we've played in my opinion. Martin O'Neill knew we didn't have the quality to break down a really packed defence too many times, so we were allowed to keep the ball for much longer than we normally do away from home. Gardner scored another peach, and it was game over.
I still think we played well, considering it was Sigurdsson's first start, and were unlucky to lose. If Sunderland hadn't sat so deep, we would have created a lot more chances and it just came down to two bits of quality finishing at one end, and not at the other. But that's what you would expect from multi million pound players.
Even though we lost I'm actually more confident about staying up now, because if we play like that in our next 4 away games (West Brom, Stoke, Wigan and Fulham), I think we'll get more than 4 points, which would almost double our away points tally for the season
