can anyone give me the heads up on the league position qualification for the europa league, i know 5th and 6th qualifies you but does 7th? or does it still rely on winners of the fa and carling cup. didnt we qualify under roeder in 7th.

7th place gets you into Europe unless a team below 7th reaches the final of the FA Cup or wins the carling cup.

5th is automatic Europa qualification. 6th and 7th go to the FA Cup/Carling cup winners. If the FA Cup is won by a team in the top 5 then the runner up gets Europa league but this rule doesnt apply to the Carling Cup. If both the FA Cup finalists and Carling Cup winner are all top 5 sides then 6th and 7th place win you qualification.

so we want the top teams or us to get into the fa cup final.

what happens if we finish 6th (likely) and liverpool win the carling cup (likely)

Couldn't have put it better. This is why 6th is the real target for getting into Europe, as more than likely a lower side will get to the FA Cup final, especially with some big teams already out.

Depends who the FA cup finalists are, and where Liverpool finish. Assuming Liverpool finish 7th in that scenario, then both FA Cup finalists would need to be top 5 for us to reach Europe.

Only 5th is guarenteed Europe. Whoever wins the league cup gets into Europe, but if the carling cup winner is in the top 5, then 6th place gets Europe. If both the FA Cup finalists are in Europe anyway, then 7th gets Europe.

So basically we want Man city to win league cup and the final of Fa cup to be Man U and Man City (or Newcastle :emoticon-0100-smile)

omg this is sooooo confusing, so -

we finish 6th
liverpool finish 7th
liverpool win carling cup
that removes 7th for qualy
we then need 2 top 5
or us
to get into the fa cup final

so overall if we finish 6th then its unliikely we qualify for europe and if we fish 7th then its very unlikely

Basically we definitely want City to win the League Cup, and IF we dont get to the final of the FA Cup then we want a Chelsea-City final or something like that. Finishing 6th would give us a great chance, 7th still a good chance, but we can absolutely guarantee it by getting to the FA Cup final, which is why I want us to play very strong teams in it.

i still want to know what happens if Man u or Man city win euro cup and qualify for champs league

The bad point in this is City are already out of the FA cup and either Utd or Liverpool will be out next round. Basically we need to get to the FA cup final or hope City beat Liiverpool next week and go on to win the League cup. Either that or we come in the top 5! :1980_boogie_down:

Surely it does not matter if Liverpool or Man City win the League Cup? Because they will both probably finish ahead of us anyway so even if Liverpool win the LC and then finish 6th and we finish 7th it would be dependent on the FA cup whatever happens. The only way Liverpool winning the LC matter is if we finish above them in the league.
