Someone on here was convinced that Gary Hooper was going to hand in a transfer request today. Apparently they heard it from a reliable source.

Just thought I would give you an update:

http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011

Speaking exclusively the official Celtic website, Hooper said: “I’m very happy. I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team.

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now. I’m just focusing on football - training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.

But how can this be? What kind of madness is this? Someone choosing to stay in Scotland instead of moving south to the two bestesest ever leagues in the world!

What else did anyone expect him to say to the Official Celtic Website?

The business will be going on behind closed doors, as it should be.

I wouldn't get too cocky yet - still 2 weeks of the transfer window left, anything can happen. Deals that have looked dead in the water have happened in the past.

Aye, but he's supposed to be handing in a transfer request today right?

Southampton have ideas far above there station if they think bidding low and trying to unsettle Hooper was going to work. Southampton <laugh>

Saints do their business behind closed doors and will continue to do so.

Lennon can publicly make as many statements about how Hooper is twice the player of Messi as much as he wants but that won't hold teams back <ok>

How many times have players come out and said they're happy staying where they are, and then moved clubs a few weeks later? If Celtic accepted a bid things may well change in his mind, but I doubt we'll even get to that stage. Try again in the summer, when/if we're in the Premiership. I'm sure we would be a much more attractive option then.

For now though, good luck to Gary and Celtic for the remainder of the season.

We don't want to let him go, we don't have to let him go and he doesn't want to go.

Unless Soton make an absolutely massive bid, it doesn't make any financial sense to sell our best striker. And it certainly doesn't make any footballing sense. Stranger things have happened of course, but I wouldn't be holding my breath on this one...

When has a player ever said 'Im not happy, I want to leave' to their official website <doh>

Puncheon might come out and say it on the official site. lol. He will be kept well away from it. Maybe on the Cbeebies version seeing as his agent says he is 'playing with the kids'

Must've been a fool that said he would hand in a transfer request today, however I wouldn't expect him to say anything else to the club's official site. I would guess he has been told to by your version of our Don. lol

And I don't think we are getting above ourselves. We're not trying to bid low and unsettle a player. You wouldn't ever expect a team to bid high straight away. Would be foolish not to start lower until a deal can be done. Trying to buy a player that is playing for a much bigger club than us is not getting above ourselves, ambitious maybe but not getting above ourselves.

As for the 'world's 2 bestest' leagues. We can't lay claim to that. EPL is the most watched followed by La Liga, Bundesliga and in fourth comes the Championship. I would guess the SPL would be higher if the other clubs the the old firm had larger capacity stadiums and more fans but that's how it is. Not the old firm club's fault nor the championship's fault. Just the way it is.

Like I said before if Hooper does come we will have to pay and he won't be coming here for anything other than Adkins. We are nowhere near as big a club as Celtic and most of us know that.

The only thing in our favour is if the stated £10k a week wages he is on is true. If so, he could be swayed by £20-25k a week and tell Celtic he wants to talk. Apart from that, I don't think it'll happen. Hope I'm wrong.
