Is he a good ball winner? Does he set up goal scoring opportunities? Does he score goals? Does he cover a lot of ground, look threatening, do nothing? If, like me, you think no, no, no,yes then should we off load? Not trying to be a smart arse, but what do you think
Hes terrible on the left or in the middle but could do a job on the right, sadly were stuck with him. One of NWs desperation buys, an old player who we will never get rid of like Vine, Rowlands, Cook etc whos contract far outweighs their talent. I dont even get out of my seat when he has a chance, I know he will miss a la Bothroyd.
Yeah, he's a massive disappointment. There's no end product apart from lost possession. A few tricks, but no guile, no incisive pass, no penetration.
He'd be better on the right wing, all this playing him out of position has obviously upset his fragile sat-nav, he just needs a re-boot...up the jacksie for constantly getting caught offside...
Mackie,Buz,Derry,Hill should go first as playing in the wrong league!.One of the only things going for SWP is he has pace. Need quality in soon
I firmly believe he is a confidence player and is sadly lacking in it atm but hopefully MH will re-install it and we'll see the old SWP back!
Of all our players I find it staggering that he's the one someone can pick out for criticism. The guy desperately needs a goal for a bit of confidence and he looked really good in the first half, certainly our most threatening player. I think Hughes can get the best out of him.
So far, since signing for us, he's had some great moments and some bad. It's been usually more towards the bad or at least insufficient but if only NW or MH would have played him on the right wing and put more emphasis on the rest of the midfield so that he doesn't have all the pressure. Also, we need Taarabt back. We shouldn't have let him go to Africa!
Sorry watford but I think he is a player who as often flattered to decieve. He always seems to be a player that pundits warm to and expectations always seem to run high yet his performance on the pitch is that of under acheivement. He's not the first to have great pace and flair however he always seems to deliver an over/under hit cross or loses possesion just when we seem to be threatening. His rare strikes on goal are feeble to say the least. I think we should cash him in, if possible, because I don't think there's any more to him.
SWP is one of those players, whose only real attribute throughout his career has been pace, and without pace he would have probably spent his football career down in leagues 1 and 2, with his brother. Don't get me wrong a player with blistering pace can be a massive weapon, but they still need the footballing talent to go with it, and for me SWP has never had the game required to be a top premier league player. He lacks creativity in his passing, he can barely cross, and his control is poor. He may be able to run fast without the ball, but with the ball he doesn't have the talent required to run fast, and keep the ball under control. That's why he's always been a top team reject. Chelsea paid a fortune for him, and realised he was useless, so sold him back to City, and once City came into the money, they didnt want him either, so sold him to you guys. So you bought a 29 year old who's only quality is pace, and he's only going to get slower and slower as he ages, by the time he's 31 he will be practically useless in the Premier League, and even now he's not far off it, as he's knowere near as fast as he was when he was 24-25
massive disappointment, basically he is a wide attacking player who, cant beat a full back left or right , cant cut in from the right or left , cant hit the touchline left or right, cant cross from the left or right . i ask you ,what exactly does he offer us?
For those that don't rate him: Who do we offload him to? Is it his fault he's spent almost his entire time at Rangers out of position? The lad can clearly play. He's a confidence player and always has been. As the team improves under Hughes I have no doubt he'll get some of that confidence back and start really producing. He's showed glimpses of it at home to Newcastle and Norwich, away at Wolves, at Stoke, at Spurs so let's stick with him, because the alternatives are Tommy Smith and Hogan Ephraim.
In our last 9 league games where we've scored only 6 goals, Mackie has been responsible for 2 of them. I think that's good enough for a winger. SWP is out of position most of the time but I can't help thinking that a player of 12 years premier league experience should have more to offer. I agree Buzz, Derry and Hill are great champ players but out of their class in the PL.
How on earth has he been our best player? We have won one game with him in the starting x1 this season. His game is head down and run. Ive said on many an occassion that his effort is 100% , better than anyone elses but that is not ebnough for me when the end product is so poor. We played better football with SWP on the right . Anyone remember newcastle , villa and wolves.
OP, this seems harsh. Scored a disallowed goall that should have stood. Might have been confidence booster. Skimmed woodwork yesterday with very fine effort. Runs at defenders and causes errors. Did he not win the Chelsea penalty?? I think he could still come good under a new system of coaching / training.
