(OT) The Monarchy!

Which is why I oppose the monarchy. It is bad enough that the monarch technically has the power to circumvent democracy, but to continue with a system which suggests that somebody has the automatic right to rule a democratic nation because of the notion that they have divine right is both undemocratic and ridiculously outdated. Monarchal succession and divine right are medieval concepts that any right thinking country should have put to bed along with slavery or unequal rights for women.

As for the Head of State also being the Head of a Religion, don't get me started.

 

i think there are bigger problems that need more attention. couldn't care less whether we have a monarchy or we don't.

Why should have respect and love for someone who was born into a position of power? Is there any democratic way of getting rid of a monarchy?

 

Yes, but it won't happen in the UK because the monarch wouldn't allow it . You can't make it up.

 

Phil would hand you the gun and point you towards the nearest swan infested lake.

Sums it up pretty well for me. We don't have the right to ridicule GW Bush because our Head of State is in place through an embarrassing dark ages nonsense. Sort of brings it home just how crap being a monarchy is when you put it like that.

Bush might be a twat but at least he was an elected twat.

Well because of the Monarchy, my Birthday falls on the double bank holiday days in June so they're still good in my book.

Bank holidays probably aren't important to some of the lazy unemployed ****ers (including students ) but I love them
