Wadworths is my favourite brewer, and 6x is my favourite pint although not when it's straight out the barrel as it is in the Humble Plum Pub. They have a rotating selection of real ales which I work my way through but I only drink beer in the pub as bottled is not really worth the effort, except on a hot summers day I will get a cold lager from my drinks fridge. Yes, I have one just for drinks. Everyone has to have a hobby.
At home, I drink red wine, and have a regular order with Laithwaites. Black Stump and the Opi Malbec are current favourites. Like Jamesons, if it's going to be adulterated with ginger ale or Glenmorangie for single malt, no water.
Oh, and a cup of tea during January as Mrs Fodder and I give our livers some respite during January. About the 25th of the month I start to feel really great and full of energy, right up until I fall off the wagon again in February.

You can get a 5 litre mini cask too, which is drawn straight from the cask. That's available from the visitor centre on the Wadworth's website also.
Years ago when I lived near Devizes I had some mates come down from Yorkshire, full of scorn for the "weak Southern piss" we called beer. By the time they had each had 3 pints of Old Timer in about 15 minutes they had revised their opinion somewhat.
: It does catch you out. The landlord of my local pub near Devizes fancied a session, so challenged me to do a gallon.....I was unsucessful as you can imagine, but gave it a bloody good go. It was 63 steps (I counted it once) door to door from my house to the pub, but it took me best part of half an hour to get home
Which pub, out of interest? Mine was the Northey Arms at Box.
Chilco, it was the George and Dragon in Potterne, out of Devizes on the Salisbury road. The beer's not bad in the Somerset Wagon in your neck of the woods as far as I know. My daughter lives in Chilcompton, so pop in occasionally
Hey I know the George and Dragon, haven't been there for donkey's years though. Yes, the ale is good in the Wagon, although I normally drink in the Redan, where you can currently get a decent pint of Doom Bar. PM me if you fancy meeting up for a pint next time you're in Chilcompton.

I remember being up in the Lakes at Great Langdale, during the early 1980's, with a mate of mine. Near our campsite was an old pub that we went in when we weren't climbing the fells. We asked for the best beer in the pub, and the landlord pulled a couple of pints saying, there lads, that'll put hairs on your chest. It was malty, watery, dark and almost totally lacking in anything worthy enough to be called ale. My guess is it was either a porter or a mild, but it was a piss poor example of either. We ordered a couple of decent whiskies after that. I remember us telling the landlord about Ringwood Old Thumper, and how he should get some in, as he did guest beers. If he'd taken our advice, that would have been a guest that stayed.
