I am going to Staplewood on Wednesday. Might sneak a look round.

Final planning permission was given on 11th Feb last year and work was scheduled to start immediately. I'd be slightly concerned if nothing has happened yet.

Yes it has started and is on schedule. As i posted on a thread a while ago , it will take ages to complete though . They had to build temp facilities before they could knock down the existing ones .

Ah ok,that's great then.Didn't they scrape the original plan and decided to use an improved one instead?

Original Staplewood plans

New Staplewood plans - 3x times more expensive and announced after Markus Liebherr's death

Being built in order to get category 1 academy status when the new academy structure come in next season and also to attract players to the club. Staplewood will be on a par with some of the best training grounds in the country. No need to built to such a high spec unless you want the club to compete at the top of the Premier League, otherwise could just go with a smaller scale development.

Doesn't the category 1 status (matched only by two/three Premier League clubs) ensure that other teams that steal our youth players have to pay full compensation?

Yes. They had an initial plan for improvement, which they sent for planning permission, and they published the plan on the OS. It was ambitious, but then they ripped it up, to replace it with one which was far more ambitious. Then they got permission for that. Of course, all of this will take longer than the initial plans would have taken, to come to fruition.

MLG .

Did not realise the origional plans were replaced so TA :-)

TSS .

Yes , this is why it has taken so long to build " Temp " Accommodation , I have heard it could take up to 2 years to complete .

Our facilities will match Chelsea & Arsenal once completed .

It's a case of WHEN completed not If :-)

Oh I think the plans Saints have are going to surpass anything built so far. Only Man City's outline plans seem to be bigger. However, will they be built, let alone get permission..?
