Hi, newcomer to not606. Currently in my final year of uni and massive Norwich fan, get to as many games as I can but its one hell of a trek from Devon.

Is this the best team ever? Not in terms of quality or results but togetherness of the squad and work ethic. In my opinion other than fantastic results one of the best things Lambert has bought to our club is a fantastic belief, work ethic and togetherness throughout the squad.

Welcome to the chaotic world of the NCFC forum, tipsy. <ok>

Uncle Dave will be along soon with something more warming than Devon scrumpy to help you continue your tipsiness! Won't you, Dave?

Be really interesting to see how Lambert would have progressed with Mike Walker's squad, Sutton, Fox, Gunn, Robins, Bowen etc. The current crew might be as good as that, but there's so much money in the game now (Chelski, Man City etc) that we'll never ever know.

Welcome tipsy, It's always difficult trying to compere teams from different eras, it boils down to a matter of opinion, and I saw recently on another board, opinions are like arseholes! Everybody has one! <laugh>

Like Superman, I would probably go with Dave Stringer's team, or perhaps, Mike Walker's improved version of it!

dave, even though we finished higher under walker, i rated stringer's football better. it was similar to how spurs play now. lovely interplay, short passing, counter attacking - great to watch! walker's approach was very gung-ho and we took some hefty beatings because of it, despite winning far more than we lost. i still maintain had we not been exiled from europe during our best period of our history, with additions to the team who would have come due to european football on a regular basis, we would have won at least one major trophy with stringer's team. a bit more luck with injuries and we could probably have had a league title in 89 and an fa cup in 92. can't imagine a time when we will ever challenge for the title again, especially not on a consistent basis!

Maestro - I blush with embarrassment having hit an E instead of an A <doh>

Supers - you are spot on with your assessment, but it was that very 'gung ho' attitude that made Walker's team possibly more exciting!

more exciting perhaps dave, but the question was which was best! :D

for pure excitement, you have to go a long way to beat the last minute theatrics of the current crew <yikes>

they've knocked ten years off my life!!

Skipper, maybe if we traded our supplies, that would cut the risk of that happening again. You could look after my diet coke and I could keep a careful eye on your whisky <whistle>

It's a shame that I wasn't old enough to remember the stringer/walker era as i was very young but my dad always raved especially about stringers side and how impressive they were. You can not fault todays side and for the first 25 years of my life, this is the best side I've witnessed before my own eyes...

i feel quite privileged to have seen some really good norwich sides. when i first started going in the late 80s we were always up at the top of the league and challenging for honours. it seems strange now but at the time i suppose i assumed it would always be like that! this is the best team we've had since 1995 in my opinion. i just wish we could pop darren huckerby in to our current team - i feel sorry for him that he ended up playing in some of our most mediocre teams (2004 excepted). he'd revel in it right now <ok>

It was worth a try wasn't it?

Maybe it's worth a thread of it's own?

Suggestions how to get the skipper's whisky shared out?

i would go with the stringer team, great to watch and support and the nucleus for walker to do his stuff.

I feel that the Stringer team were the more consistent.

And I think Ian Crook would have been the boss man in midfield that would take this squad to a new level.
I thought Stringer achieved the most as he put that squad together and had the better team. But I believe some of the current squad would have a chance of getting into and improving that side eg Holt for Rosario.
