I don't get the rules of entry for this competition, I understand the winner of the league cup get a place but if they are already in Europe then the 6th team in the league gets the spot
so say if Man City win then Liverpool will be given a place(currently 5th) and if they win the cup the sport will be theirs. OK I get that but now on to the FA cup, the two finalist get spots and lets be honest it wont be Newcastle reaching the final so if say the final is arsenal(5th) vs livepool(6th or league cup winners) or any of the top 6 team play each other does Newcastle go get in? (my head hurts<steam>) can anyone help me clarify this?

It's ****ing ******ed mate.

It should just be, the top 4 teams get in the CL, the 5th,6th and 7th best teams should get into Europa.

Now it's if a lower team gets to the final of the FA, wins the Carling Cup or finishes top of the ****ing fair play league, they get a spot in Europe.

Ridiculous.

No no.

Winner of Carling Cup, if not already in Europe goes into the Europa League, the other finalist, if not in Europe, does not get given it, it goes down to 6th in the league.

If the winner of the FA Cup is already in Europe, it then goes to the runner up if they aren't in Europe, if both teams already are, it goes to 7th.

This. Tis quite simple to be fair.

This, and it is such a bastard to explain! Basically if Liverpool or City win the Carling Cup then sixth gets Europe and then if the FA Cup final is contested between Man Utd and Chelsea then 7th gets into Europe. However if the final is contested between Man Utd and Swindon, no matter what the final score is, Swindon get into Europe!

And make the cups even less competitive?

I'm in favour of going the other way. How much would everybody care about the FA Cup if you got a Champions League place for winning it?! If league and 2 cup winners plus league runner up got into Champs League, suddenly the name 'Champions League' means a lot more...

In my opinion, this is a good idea. However it would limit the chance teams like us have of winning the cups, which has proved the be a very slim chance as it is.

True, but luck of the draw and upsets do happen against the top teams, even when they set up strongly. How many times have Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U been beaten by lower teams? Also, if the league places are reduced, we'll see less concentrated income at the top, so the league as a whole should be more even. If only two positions are CL, if we say 6 teams are competing (the Manchesters, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and Liverpool), 4 of those will lose out, and due to financial fair play rules won't be able to just buy success the next year. I think it'd be class. The clubs who object are the clubs with the most to lose, i.e. those top 6.
