Did he? Alot of the squad predates his reign. Talismanic players like Bale and Modric were at the club before him, they have merely matured, adapted to the league and are peaking now. VdV was a dodgy bit of wheeling and dealing, rotten to the core that deal.
Alot of his additions have been very mediocre e.g. BAE, Pav.
Many new additions to the current squad are club youth products also e.g. Rose, Walker.
The timing of his reign has been very flattering to his reputation. A surge of quality youth products waiting to break through and a quality squad that was underperforming under Ramos.
 
I'm tired hearing about him to be fair. If he wants Ba you ca hardly blame him. I think I'll be gone by the time January ends anyway.

vdv -Quality player, anyone would have wanted him. Not going to be giving him credit for acquiring a player in a highly dubious manner
sandro - Quality payer, il give him that one
bassong - Spotted by keegan, and came to prominence with NUFC, no brainer really for price he was goinig at after relegation. Bit part player now
gallas - No brainer, free agent
parker - Good player, lofty leagu position probably helped in acquiring his services
friedel - Yep good acquisition, but anything is an improvement on Gomes

could make a top 7 team out of that easily

think you're being overly critical. "no brainer" could be attributed to every good transfer ever done in hindsight. also - those players "merely returned" because of redknapp

also - kyle walker cost 5million iirc, naughton cost more (currently doing well on loan at norwich)
