Roberto Mancini has accused Wayne Rooney of putting pressure on referee Chris Foy to send off Vincent Kompany. Kompany's tackle was first class (no innuendo's please), but this chump is pretty much useless. It's not like they weren't warned <steam>. Refereeing standards have dropped so much that I look back on Poll as an unobtainable standard (sorry PNP).
 
Kompany jumped in with both feet off the ground, so according to the letter of the law it was a straight red.
He got a wide variety of other decisions wrong though, in keeping with his displays throughout the season, so you have to wonder why he was given the game in the first place.

Poll was the worst kind of ref, for me.
Consistently inconsistent, to the point of clear bias.
He was far too chummy with certain players and it showed in his decision making.
He still talks bollocks now, most of the time.
 
I found out Foy was the ref before I saw what Kompany's red was for, straight away I had a feeling it'd been a refereeing cock up.
 
PNP - technically you are right, but I personally don't think it was worth a red.
What I find amusing are the hypocritical outpourings from Rooney, Ferdinand and Roy Keane. If that challenge had been a 'red' when Keane was playing he would have been permanently suspended.

Kompany's card was pretty harsh, as he didn't really throw himself into the tackle and he didn't touch Nani.
I'm sure that he's aware of the rules, though.
A little naive, but how many times would you actually see a red for it?

There was no studs showing. If there was, red card fair enough. Feet both pointed down. Terrible decision.

Fair point - although there were times when I would have loved RK to have added some steel to our club. He was a damn good player in his time.
Kompany is certainly not a dirty player and has been arguably Citehs best player this year. I am delighted he will probably miss our game (subject to appeal, although I don't think they will be successful based on recent examples).
How many times? Actually think less than 20% - and a darn sight fewer in the first 10 mins!!!

Just to clarify, that's what I meant.
Would Man Utd's players have been particularly upset if Kompany was booked?
 
It was definitely a red card. I do some refereeing, and I would have given that as a red card. Indeed, had Foy not produced a red card, he could have been sanctioned by his professional body.

Having said that, he'll probably be sanctioned for other decisions that he did cock-up, such as failing to award United a penalty for that foul on Valencia.

I am surprised. Started this thread on the assumption that everyone would agree it was a terrible decision, teach me for taking things for granted. For the record I thought it was top tackle and totally fair.

I agree with you mate.

The rules of the game are just OTT in my opinion. I've had far worse tackles against me and dished out some bad one's too when I use to play Sunday League and most of the time no card was produced.

No one was harmed, Kompany won the ball and you could argue and say the tackle itself didn't even look malicious.

But rules are rules I suppose...
 
so if a player chases a ball whih is going out of play and he dives onto it 2 footed and keeps it in...should he be sent off since he went for the ball 2 footed?

you see the biggest give away to me that that was a good tackle was that it was made against Nani..and there isnt many bigger drama queen's than this bloke...yet even he once having lost the ball to 'that' tackle..turned around and tried to chase the ball back....instead of his usual antics of rolling around like hes been shot.

Kompany was in control....so was he sent off because it shows intent and the possibility that kompany could make a rash challenge? if thats the case then he or any player who slides in 2 footed to keep a ball in play should also be sent off as it shws intent and next time there might be a player present.

its all a load of rubbish with no common sense in the game anymore...all the refs that are liked are for some strange reason those who use common sense.

Professional football is messed up and referees are becoming less able to use their discretion.

In any game of football that I have played that tackle was excellent. I would not have complained for one moment if someone tackled me like that and I would be proud to make it myself. It simply WAS an excellent tackle.

However, in the modern, professional game which has been taken over by deceiving, cheating scumbags and run by bureaucrats sending orders down to referees in continual attempts to prevent them acting according to common sense and giving them no credit for having an idea of what the spirit of the game is...it is also a red card.

Football has come a long way with many of its changes over the last few decades but sometimes the directives ("Handball to stop goal MUST ALWAYS mean red card" "The definition of a professional foul is ONLY when the last man takes someone out" "Two footed/from behind challenges are ALWAYS red cards") are just far too simplistic.
 
Rooney on the other hand is a big stupid pikie twat who should have got a yellow for waving an imaginery card....its something i detest and at times ive seen Bale do it too..but then again i dont blame Bale because from the off he is a target to be hacked..they actually look to chop the player because they have no chance otherwise.......everything is relative..and yesterday was no sending off..letter of the law or not..if the letter of the law is applied then thats 5 pens each team guaranteed if the ref keeps an eye on what goes on in the pen box during corners!

I'd agree with that. There was no protest from Nani, the tackle was not reckless, Kompany got the ball cleanly. Ridiculous decision.

Thing is, though DM, that any ref officiating that match would have been constrained under the rules to produce a red card.

I'm not saying that the rules are not farcical on this issue; all I am saying is that Foy cannot be blamed for producing a red card on that occasion.
 
What actually IS the wording of the rule? Does it talk about feet being raised? Does it use the words "malicious" or "dangerous"? Anyone able to post a link?
 
Referees in general are a joke. Something needs to be done about the poor standards as the effects of a referee decision can cost a club so much money.
 
does anybody think Foy is getting paid by Man Utd? all his ref errors have been in thier favour
