Billed as a defender and is captain of Aberdeen. Right back is certainly a position where we could be stronger so fingers crossed it's a good buy.
Has played at Rangers in the Europa League. Can't be half bad if he was one of the best 24 players in Scotland last year (assuming Rangers and Celtic would have the best two teams). However if Wikipedia can be believed "Foster has since fallen out of favour with the Aberdeen fans after a number of high profile mistakes, being openly booed by his own fans during matches." Not sure if we have bought a good un or not
Never saw this one coming did we but we must trust DM's acumen. Appears very versatile and has played in several positions so let's keep our opinions in the hat until we see him perform. I have a sneaky feeling about this man and it's good - don't ask me why.
I love it when a new name crops up,nobody can give an appraisal because we don't have any knowledge, sounds a great choice, presses all the buttons and a reasonable price.. Don't you just love Delboy..... http://sport.stv.tv/football/scotti...berdeens-richard-foster-to-join-bristol-city/
I think we are beginning to see the way DM will do his business. Very quietly. Very efficiently. No one saw Stephen Pearson, the Derby reject, on the radar but DM obviously knew something about him and knew how to get the best from him. And boy hasn't he got the best from him. If we keep bringing in rejects like him I will be very very happy. No one here had heard of Richard Foster, a player who Aberdeen fans seem to be booing lately for his mistakes, yet DM obviously knows him and believes in him. Lets hope he is as bad as Pearson. A team of cast offs and rejects with something to prove lead by a young manager with a vision. This is going to be very interesting
He's had a complicated relationship with Dons fans, hence him getting loaned out and the less than welcome homecoming so far this season (well wouldn't you be annoyed in their position?). Reckon he'd frankly love to play anywhere else and I can understand why the figure is estimated at being so. Still, he's got European experience and has more pace and is of a better age than the last right back who arrived at the club. Guess we'll wait and see.
I never take too much from other teams websites when players want to leave. If he really wants to catch on with City then he will need to prove himself where it counts - on the pitch.
I remember back in the late 60’s and through the 70’s a certain Brian Clough buildt TWO First Division Championship teams at Derby and Forest and won the European Cup twice at Forest. Did he do this with large money signings – Trevor Francis and Shilton apart. Or by signing other clubs star players? No, it was mainly a collection of misfits and under performers from First and Second Division English & Scottish clubs; examples John Robertson, overweight / Kenny Burns wild man got sent off too much / and loads of other journeymen. I have a strong suspicion that DEREK McINNES has a similar outlook and ability to get more out of his players than many other managers and he is going to prove it over the next season or three at Ashton Gate. Our problem then becomes “How do we keep hold of HIM?”
It would be interesting to compare the reactions and posts to the signing of Nicky Hunt (general happiness at a prem quality player!) compared to say Pearson (general dismay at a Championship quality reject) I know which player I would rather have.
