I was really worried that might be the case. I can't see 'arry wanting to let him go on the cheap and despite him being out of contract at the end of the season I'm pretty sure Spurs will offer him a new one that will no doubt be financially more viable that we can offer and also include potential Champions League football in the next few seasons. I personally don't think there's a lot between him and Kyle Walker, both are excellent young English full backs and Naughton has proved he can also be outstanding at left back so I think 'arry would be mad to let him go. Which is obviously bad news for us
ignore the above - just read michael bailey's tweets. that is the most disappointing news of the season so far in my opinion. naughts was doing a q & a on twitter the other night and he seemed to love it here. obviously not in his hands...
Maybe he likes playing week in week out so might stall on a contract and join us for free in the summer? Like Johnson done with leeds.
is his contract actually running down in the summer or not? i've read in a few places that it is, but nowhere official
...........his contract does run out at the end of the season but we would still have to pay a fee for him due to his age, but probably less than 'arry would want.
hmm, this is a strange one. how much are spurs asking?! they paid a combined fee of £9m for him and kyle walker so they will want a decent fee, but i said on another thread that £2-£3m would be a very good piece of business for us. it may seem expensive for a full back but his re-sale value will be vastly higher if he continues his excellent form. also, if we are in the frame for gunter and they want £2m+, it would be far more sensible to sign someone who has already settled in and is performing tremendously well. makes you wonder if spurs are asking for stupid money. lambert hasn't completely ruled it out by the sounds of things - more that we can't afford him at the moment. maybe it will be reassessed in the summer.
"lambert hasn't completely ruled it out by the sounds of things - more that we can't afford him at the moment. maybe it will be reassessed in the summer." For different reasons, it has to be said, but this is what happened with our initial approach for Bennett. He wanted to stay and help Brighton achieve promotion - a quality which surely would have endeared him to Lambert even more
Spurs wanted £6mil for him in the summer when Leicester wanted him on a perm if thats anything to go by! I think Lambert ain't going to get any of his top targets...
6 million? yikes. And thats a summer price, without regular premier league play. We need to find an oil sheik and quick me thinks....
if it went to tribunal they wouldn't get anywhere close to that figure! £3m seems about right to me. i'm still hopeful... oh, and you won't find me wanting any sheiks to roll into norwich any time soon. i think it would be the death of the club.
no no i agree entirely superman, just a glib observation of how distorted player prices have become since football became a billionaires play thing. Happy with our policy of looking at potential, not just the price tag. After all stella artois sells itself as 'reassuringly expensive' and that stuff is pretty much piss water.
Is there anything official on this? I see Michael Bailey has said it's a non-starter, but if that's the case, Lambert would've known that before he commented on it last week. Just seems a bit odd. Anyway, if it's not to be then it's a real shame for us. It would have been a great signing to pull off.
I'd love to think there's a bit of hard talk and double bluf going on, but that's not really the Lambert way, is it? There may be hope in the summer should we stay up, have to wait and see.
