I see southend have signed David Martin from Derby, I thought he was a brilliant midfielder when he was at Millwall....nice to see some teams being proactive 'Roland', pity its the ones that are a head of us though!!.....I think on thease boards we should concentrate more on our plight than we do winding up the Gas, as im sure they will be playing BSP next year...
i must not wind the gas up x 100. i for one cannot see any connection with winding the gas up and our "plight". i am sure gt is on top of the transfer market, his first task being someone on loan to cover for wroe. i notice quite a few premier clubs are loaning out some of their players. particularly man city i will be as suprised to see southend in league 1 as 1 would be seeing the gas in the bsl. of the top 3 cheltenham look favourites alongside swindon and possibly 3 others in the hunt, oxon, gills and shrews in no particular order, the big transfer question concerns ainsworth, bradshaw and possibly collins. if any of these go they will need replacing and not necessarily on the loan market, so far club coffers should be overflowing by 300k for fa cup alone plus money from the carling cup. if town could force a replay against boro then more cash may be rested from our esteemed chairman and board
one wonders if at the end of january a combination of cup runs and player sales our board may have close on £1 million in the bank and say of this 200k could go on 2 or 3 good players. i think we have to show genuine interest in auto promo in spite of the last few disapointments. floreat salopia, graham, squad, sponsors and our esteemed board who are all doing an excellent job
dont know if you have noticed AJ, but our beloved Rowland doesn't like to spend 'any money', so all we have is a good bank balance..and thats it!....its like having Ronaldo on our books and keeping him locked in the wardrobe...
that is why he and the club won an award for being i think amongst the top 100 business's in the uk, some award, some board, some chairman!!. you keep on that vintage port rowland you deserve it. there is no point in spending money unless the club has to. rooney, tevez and a traditional badge would be my top 3 spend items.
and we languish in division 2, for the next hundred years. good plan AJ , we wouldn't want to drop out that top one hundred ...would we.....do i mean 'we' or him ?...where is that coverted award kept then?...some award.......eh...remember AJ, its OUR money thats spent on the gate!!
true, i expect the award is in the club silverware cabinet with the 1903 shropshire senior cup and various welsh cups and an original ovaltiney mug. not forgetting it is our money spent on wages, upkeep of the fabric of the stadium ets. i feel sure if gt wants money for players he will get it but not 350/400k for i player that is plain daft and is a quick way to admin. rest assured rowland and the board will never let their club and it is their club get into debt
nor get promoted either....there has got to be an equilibrium too how much we spend and how much we save, after all the whole idea of the football league system is to get as far up it as possible...just how much available funds do we have?. after all GTs last visit into the loan market wasn't that successful, it just looks like 'players on the cheap' all the time...unless we pay some really fantastic wages..which i doubt..
Well now you can see from the accounts that we spent almost everything that came in last year. That's equilibrium. We could spend more but we won't be able to sustain it - don't let's kid ourselves that promotion will lead to new riches. It won't. The TV money's not much more in League 1 and the evidence of other clubs shows that gates don't increase either, not unless you run straight up to the Championship. Players on the cheap? Do you really think the likes of Wright, Ainsworth, Wroe, Richards, Sharps, Jacobson, Gornell, Morgan etc are cheap for League 2? Get real. League 2's about size of contracts, not transfer fees, and I don't think we're so attractive that these players choose us over other clubs that would pay more. Sure the idea is to get as high as you can, but not like a rocket on bonfire night. Why you think we've not been successful in the loan market beats me. We've got perhaps the best young right back currently playing in the lower leagues (Hurst) and a useful midfielder (Wildig). You must be thinking of Wallace, because of his suspension/illness/injury etc. Fair enough but it seems like he's staying on so let's give him the chance to prove himself. Everton midfielders usually have a good pedigree. That glass is half full if you look at it closely.
I agree. Whilst promotion will be excellent from the fans' point of view, it won't mean much more money flowing into the club. A little, maybe, but a fairly negligible amount. Ticket prices will probably go up slightly, and I think our attendances will go up more than other clubs' may; ours seems to be very closely correlated with performance. However, by the same token, a relegation season would quite possibly lead to a drop in attendances. While I think this current squad and the facilities the club posses are good enough to ensure survival in League 1, stranger things have happened, and of course we have the small matter of actually getting there in the first place!
