Still on cloud nine after listening to the game. What a difference that man MON has made. The one thing that has come out of his reign for me is the fact he is playing to the team's strengths despite having a depleted squad. That strength....need I say more; ok then.... THE COUNTER ATTACK. They are defending with their lives just now; and when teams are committing numbers forward against them and that possession is squandered; we have the pace and skill to put the opposition immediately on the backfoot. As long as we continue to defend as such we will continue to pick up points. God bless SAFC- these lads are finally fighting and showing passion for the red and white stripes...Def need some new additions in jan though....a centre half and goal scorer!. Just praying we don't fall in the third hurdle in fa cup on sun.
yep the counter attack is certainly a great way of playing. Tottenham are the best at it currently IMO. MoN is setting us out like he did Villa, the 3 in the midfield with the 2 pacy players on the wing who are direct and are allowed to roam around with the big man upfront. Done a great job so far, 3points in the cup then a trip to Stamford Bridge against a Chelsea side that are playing average football
best thing is we did it without all of these out; gordon, westwood, bramble, turner, brown, bardsley, larrson, campbell and wickham!
Some people on here said he played boring football? Well if this is boring, bring it on. Awesome football and an awesome manager.
What strikes me is his obvious passion and attention to detail. He seems to have the lads believing in themselves and concentrating for every minute of every game. Points are precious and none are got easy in this league so this is vital, with a couple of additions to the team I think he could do wonders and make us an established premiership team that demand respect and can take us to the next level to which players want to come to.
Think he will certainly add an injection of pace into the side, he has already spoke about adding pace into the future and with counter attacking football pace plays a huge part. The Pienaar rumours might not be far off, he would fit well into a side playing counter attacking football
Oddly enough, one of the big differences we're seeing at present is down to Steve Bruce. If Bent or Gyan didn't score last year it was bordering on a disaster. But last night, we had goals from Vaughan, Gardner and McClean (and Larsson wasn't even playing!). If Bendtner isn't scoring a lot, it hardly matters these days. Poor old Brucie - all these fellas were his signings. The problem was he didn't have a clue what to do with them.
Aye his strong point was always his eye for a player, in all honesty im buzzin about our new manager/team spirit and could not be happier. However cant help but feel that some of the players (not all but some) making big contributions now let Bruce down massively and should take a decent slice of the responsibility for our poor start to the season. Kindov goes unnoticed with a new manager being appointed tho. However the difference between Bruce/O'Neill in anyones eyes is unbelievable.
I think the real achievement from MON is that he has turned a team around without adding to the squad as yet Lets see what he does over Jan - bet he doesn`t bring 8 or 9 in though!! We must look so much more appealling to anyone we approach now than we did under SB Happy Days
