If anybody would like cheering up, may I suggest the following

Sunday 24th May, last game of the 2008-2009 season v Chelsea at SoL

Sunderland team
Fulop
Bardsley, Davenport, Ferdinand, Collins
Whitehead, Tainio (64), Malbranque (77), Richardson (86), Leadbitter
Jones

Subs
Edwards, Cisse, Murphy (86), Reid (64), Healy (77), McShane, Colgan
Manager R. Sbragia

Result 2 – 3 loss

There are 4, yes, only 4 of the squad picked that day still with us. Of these 4, it is likely that only 1 (Bardo) would be an automatic name on the team sheet when all are fit? This is just 21 months ago. Our style of play – and skill level has improved tremendously – this IS a work in progress. KTF

Oh, and if this doesn’t bring a smile to your face……………………. Aston Villa won that day

There's no doubting that the squad has vastly improved, we play football that is good to watch now instead of lumping it up the KJ hoping that he could be bothered to go for it. We're going through a sticky patch as all teams do, mainly brought on by our injury list, we're 7 players missing and most of them would walk into our first team so it's hardly surprising is it? We had/have some tricky games but if we are still in the top ten after Man City then i think we'll see an resurgence towards the run in. We're still on course to achieve our pre season goal of finishing top ten. KTF.

What I miss is the subs bench, when things are going wrong we no longer have that dilema, do we bring on Murphy or Healy, those happy days of despare

LM - The booze and decadent lifestyle (I wish) has also taken a toll on me, but I've got flashes (albeit black 'n' white) of everybody celebrating that day - after we lost?? Dusty Springfield strangely comes to mind....... :emoticon-0127-lipss

Brilliant article - what a fantastic job Bruce has done, and for so little outlay.
Hopefully we can still get a top ten finish at least - still praying for 7th.

Thanks mate, just what I needed, the last 4 games had gotten me down...... much further down than they should have.
