Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is determined not to discuss the club's transfer dealings despite intensifying speculation about their plans.
The Magpies continue to be linked with a move for 22-year-old West Ham defender James Tomkins in the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, rumours of a sensational swoop to bring local boy Andy Carroll back to Newcastle less than a year after his £35m move to Liverpool refuse to go away.
While admitting the club are looking to bring in players, Pardew is planning to remain quiet on the details.
"For us, it's like all clubs and managers, we have to be very careful how we negotiate and discuss things," he explained. "So on the media side, we are not going to say much at all in this window - I will apologise to you now for that.
"We will keep our cards close to our chest, but obviously we are out there looking at the market."
