I can see us signing some quality players to help us get into the premier league! So i'm going for 8-10M,but I think whatever money we need to spend we will spend it wisely! But,I see some big signings coming up.
I'd like to think that we will buy what we need to help push on towards promotion, and that will be able to hold their own in the PL. However I cannot see us splashing the cash like people are suggesting, it just doesn't seem to add up to how we have operated up until now. Although the light at the end of the tunnel is the PL, and we have a fantastic chance to push on and win promotion and this could test NC's metal, will he go for it knowing that the prize is so big? Is it such a gamble to spend >£6m in comparison to what the PL would bring?
Really don't think we'll spend much. If rumours are to be believed then Lee would only cost us up to £700K.
If people seriously believe that we will spend £8 - £10 million, then fair enough - just so long as you don't start shouting your mouths off at the club come Feb 1st if we don't.
I think we will spend big in the transfer window We have an opportunity which we didn't have at the start of the season to be able to attract genuine Premiership quality players. In a perfect world I would like to see us spend the Chamberlain money and bring in 4 or 5 quality players. Our aim this season is obviously to get promotion to the Premier League and we have given ourselves a fantastic chance of going up automatically. Now is the time to gamble a little to bring in some real quality, I'm not saying we have to completely rip apart the team but in terms of next season I feel it would be to our advantage to bring the players in now and get them settled ready to go. To many of the teams that get promoted make wholesale changes in the summer and it rarely works out. I think we should be looking at players in the following positions Goalkeeper - Davis is good but is getting on a bit, I'm not convinced he will be good enough for the premiership and I have little confidence in Bart making it at that level. Centre Back - We have two very good centre backs in Jos and Jose but we need another. I like martin but I don't feel he is quite at that level yet, Jaidi is to slow and Seaborne will not be good enough. Centre Midfielder - Now I know we have 4 very good central midfield player in Cork, Morgan, Hammond and Chaplow. I just feel we lack a commanding midfielder, someone who takes control of the pace of game and dictates the play. I don't think Morgan or Cork are quite there yet. Winger - Another pacy winger would also improve the team/squad. I like De Ridder and I think he will become a very good player but I just feel our options are pretty limited in the wide areas. Striker - It seems common knowledge that we are going to be signing a Centre forward during this transfer window. I think we need someone with genuine pace, not only to play as a foil to Lambert. If we have a striker with pace it always give you that out ball and ability to counter quickly away from home, which we lack at the moment. A player with pace is also good to have coming from the bench, we have lacked a real impact player with a goal threat since Waigo and Antonio left. Now I believe we will get promotion with our current squad, I just feel we should takes this opportunity to improve as it may not come around again. I suppose bringing in to many players could upset the current squad but I think it's a risk worth taking.
just think about it along the lines of a gambler. at the moment we are evens for promotion, with the team getting promoted in for a recently reported 90 million windfall for reaching the premiership, would you ( if you were the don) risk 10 million to win 90 million (odds 9-1) when the true odds should only be even, after all this waffle- he will probably buy no-one.
I think we will go for it this January like we did in January 2010, but naturally the higher the league the more money the players, but if spent wisely then it's not money wasted. Bar Puncheon and Forte I can't think of other signings in the Cortese era whose market values have dropped. In fact the vast majority would have increased.
GK - why would you change from an experienced keeper to a young inexperienced one. Remember Friedal, Sorenson, Robinson, van der Sar, Schwarzer are/were all 33 yrs plus and still going strong! CB - agree, if one of them gets injured then we are stuffed, Martin is good but I think inexperienced. CM - no! Just no! Why would you change anything when we have such a variety plus youngsters coming through Winger - YES! Quick and pacey! Striker - YES! Maybe one permanent. And maybe a loan Winger/Striker like Papa Waigo was The last thing we want to do us spend excessively and unbalance the team!
Goalkeeper - We are reportedley in for a dutch keeper whose name escapes me. I can't see Bart making it in the Prem, Kelvin will but he will be getting on. A keeper either this window or in the summer is a must Defence - Doing okay for rest of season. Martin is a very good backup, with tonnes of potential and will only get better. Fonte and Hooiveld will definetely make it in the Prem, with Seaborne & Jaidi providing back up to those 3 this season. More important areas to streghten right now but a possibility in the summer when Jaidi retires Midfield - Central Midfield is fine, although wings are looking threadbare. Lallana needs a rest, De Ridder is our only out and out winger down the right so I would go for a winger who can play both flanks, with Holmes & Chaplow providing backup to the wings - Chaplow won't cut it as a RM in the premiership Striker - A pacy striker to play alongside Lambert, and a target man to back up Lambert when injured. Lambert, Guly & Connolly won't get us through the season, especially with Barnard on the sidelines so 2 strikers required We also have Shaw, Stephens, Ward-Prowse, Sinclair, Reeves & Hoskins in and around the 1st team already so they could also come into the equation if required, with most of them going to be Premier League standard when they have developed a bit more
Would like to see us spend 8-10 a would just go to show we do have the money available since Markus passed, however can't see it happening as doesn't seem how we operate. Looking forward to end of transfer window
I'd rather we just made 2, possibly 3, really good signings to boost the squad sufficiently to get us promoted and save any squad renewal until the summer. The phrase "if it aint broke don't fix it" is what we should do for January. We're under pressure at the top to maintain the form to stay there and that means not having to spend time letting half a new squad settle.
Difference is they spent it on ****e, big named players that couldn't be arsed or still living off their name. We hopefully wouldn't , not saying we should bring in 10-20 players. But I do feel we need about 4 players to strengthen our first team and back up players. We should be going for it in my opinion, this is our chance of getting in the Prem. The financial rewards far outway what we would spend in the transfer market. To hardly spend anything then miss out would be madness.
Why spend big? What a daft question! It's pointless! We shouldn't go blasting money around just to buy players to stop other Championship teams buying them, like west ham! Why waste money. We have spent very little on the squad altogether over the last few years so there is no point in lashing it around just to prove that we have it
