Happy New Year folks!...I have a question for you seeing as we are in pole position for promoton. How much do you think that the Don should give to NA for transfers in January?(see poll) *the poll title should be "how much should we spend?"
Secondly you can post how much you predict that we will actually spend.

My opinion is that we still have Chamberlain's transfer money burning a hole and the prize of the Premier League is as close as it could be, so I say we should get Premier League quality in now...£10 million.

I think we'll break our transfer record but not so sure it'll be £10m. Can see a striker coming in for half that.

I hope the person who voted for 10 million was a certain Mr Cortese<laugh> We have been in the market before with 3-4 million, but ended up spending less than that. It's a difficult call..have to get the balance right between risk of spending too much and the risk of not getting promotion if we spend too little. Fans would always risk eveything, but if we don't go up anyway we could be left with a large wage bill. Best to leave this in the hand of our Nicola and hope he gets the balance right and in the hands of Nigel to get the best out of whoever we get.

Gone for £4-6M. Cannot see it being more than this. Need to save some funds for the end of season because if we are promoted, we will need some late season signings.

I just want us to bring in some quality. Maybe a player with potential of playing in the Prem and maybe a couple of players with Prem experience.

I've gone for £4 - £6 million on the basis that I absoloutely do not see us spending more than £6 million. I would be amazed, completely amazed, if we did.

My gut feeling though is that we're probably only spend about £3 million.

Striker and a Winger we need - Sharp and Snodgrass be nice!

Apologies for disagreeing but Sharp and Maynard are being lined up for the lower Premiership clubs - the latter is transfer listed for £4M as he's out of contract in the summer and has refused to resign. Snodgrass won't be allowed to leave because Leeds need him. I expect it will be players not well-know but hopefully astute buys.

The Japanese player looks interesting still bit of a long-shot maybe. Being Korean-born I hope he has the 'motor' that Park has for Man Utd - love his work rate and attitude.

I predict that the amount we spend will be......undisclosed. Unlike a well known computer game Nic won't just say "here's £_million, spend as much as you can". I also don't think that he will be too tempted to pay inflated fees for the often repeated names who are tipped to move, so we should see someone who no one has ever heard of before (I prefer it that way :D)

We will spend sensibly and wisely.

Chamberlain's money is not burning a hle in anyone's pocket. That is not how it works. We need a war chest for next season when we will need to invest heavily. For now we need a decent inside forward with pace, a nippy little winger and cover for Lambert.

Most of Chamberlains transfer fee will have been used to balance up last years £7m trading deficite so any transfer budget used now will come from this years budget
Gambling against getting promoted this season instead of next (as per the 5 year plan) is one for the Don but think he has the balls to go for it!

Cant see us spending over £4million really. Dont want to do what Leicester did.

Save the money for the premier league I say. The squad we have now is good enough for promotion but they just need to be kicked into gear again by Nigel.

Gone for 8 to 10 mil, think we will really go for it. Bringing in about about 4 good signings to push for the prem.
Think that was our aim in the first place, spend abit at the start of the season. Then see where we were in jan, depending on are position we would spend accordingly.

Say we where in mid table I think we would have been given about 3 mil, near religation about 5 mil as we wouldn't have wanted to blow alot just incase of the slip back down. But with the prem insight we can risk it, we have no chance of going down so the revenue etc would stay basically the same. But if we get promoted that's at least 90 mil and surely worth the slight gamble.

I think we need to spend now both for the push for promotion and for next season in the Prem. If we start building a Premier League side now it can only help our chances of promotion, provided the balance of the squad is not upset by an influx of big-time Charlies. To get a really good striker, winger, and (possibly) another keeper might take £8 - 10 million but the rewards for getting to the Prem are such that there is no point in false economy.

I don't know for sure but I would guess that the teams top of the Championship at the New Year in the last 6 seasons, all of whom have been promoted, have all spent fairly heavily in the January window. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I dont believe there will be a fix budget as such. It all depends on who is out there and if there is a gem of a signing im sure the money will be available
