Happy New Year folks. Just getting use to my new calculator and working out the points needed to clinch promotion based on past seasons and the way this one is unfolding. Cannot see anyone in the Top 4 amassing a return of 40 points in their remaining matches as all will drop points like confetti to other teams in the division. Nor do I see a team below present top four getting that return. On this assumption the two automatic teams could be promoted with a total in the low to mid 80 and the last play-off place with a total of 74/5. Hopefully we'll get the required amount for automatic promotion as IMO SFC are the best footballing team in the division despite recent lapses.
Want one more than second or, at a push, one more than third. Hope we get it sorted before the last game of the season...what a match that would be...make Walsall look like a vicar's tea party!
Sorry to disagree - but if you go back over the season-end tables over the past 10 years; the total points haul of the second placed team is middle-80's. I am going for 86 points for second place. Agree there have been seasons where lower totoals have gotten promoted, but that is no guarentee.
I think this year has more teams capable of hauling in mid 80's point totals. I think it will take 90 to be sure of 2nd place. 13 wins with with a couple of away draws should do it.
