I am absolutely gutted to lose our 2011 home record in the last game of the year. I feel like crying. However, it seems like Bristol City have established themselves as an official Saints bogey team. And in some ways, that is a better way for me to explain that away than look at the bigger picture and what looks like a blip over the last month or so (I also acknowledge that as blips go, this certainly is better than losing game after game - we are still maintaining some form, if not as blistering or impressive as it has been). Perhaps it's the city of Bristol's collective revenge for our nicking Rickie from Rovers? Bogey teams, though - every team has their worst nightmare. In my lifetime, I always have Everton pinned as our bogey team. Still get anxiety for teams when they play Everton, although no real justification, as plenty of teams get the better of them these days - in the same way, I almost relish playing Man Utd and Arsenal. But I expect other posters have different views on who the Saints' bogey teams are - now and in the present. Let's hear them, and try and forget this truly s**t end to the year.
We've had our share of being someone's bogey team. In the 90's we nicked points off Manchester Utd on a regular basis. As for the home record, it is massively disappointing especially a day away from the end of the year! Now, next home game, we can start a new home run! As for the Brighton game, maybe that can be the start of a winning away sequence.
Quite. We are top of the league. Unless West Ham beat Derby by 6 goals we will still be top of of the league on Monday. This makes Monday that much more important a game but even if we lose, we still have everything to play for and with the transfers to come, we are going nowhere but up.
Brilliant. I love the positivety. The teams up there with us that on the whole we've outclassed this season will definitely be smelling blood at SMS now. We need to use this to our advantage - we're not the unbeatable Saints now, and that can only help our expectations. Need a few key signings to hit the ground running, and bounce back again, like we have all season. Got a full day's rest on brighton now, and a few less hundreds of miles to travel in between. They'll likely come back from Coventry with confidence, though, like most teams this season!
They are not a bogey team it's just they play high tempo pressing and closing down football. We have no pace so can't deal with it at all.
It was Rochdale last season, Swindon before that and Bristol City now. There's always one and thankfully they never last, we got rid of that horrible Watford bogey this season.
Fact is they (City) have worked out how to play us - as Beef_Dripping has pointed out. I think, on the whole, other teams have worked out how to play us too. This is not so much a dip in form; more a case of stifling our game. I am never that fussed about January transfers; but feel we need to mix things up and some new blood is needed to invigorate the team for the final run-in. As a matter of interest - how many points do we feel we need to get to achieve auto-promotion? I have not yet looked at the previous season-end tables; I would be interested to know....
To be honest it is a bit of a relief in a way. Feel teams can get nervous about keeping records going, now at least we can go back to relaxing and not looking at records and stats.
What is all this "Calendar year" crap recently??? Football is played in seasons, not years. Just another thing the media have hyped up to fill papers and for Sky to come up with pointless stats for. We've lost one home game in the first half of THIS SEASON. We are top of the league. Those are the only stats I'm interested in.
