I'd love to see it happen, but I don't think it will! http://www.england.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=267061
Would be an awesome thing to see, holt getting service from the likes of Rooney Walcott and Young. Reckon he could bang a few in. That said his game would be hated internationally and most foreign refs would send him off most games.
Come on?? International level? Ive got yellow tinted glasses but cant see this ever happening. Lets just hope he keeps banging them in for us. As for Ruddy, I think he has been magnificant and should be seriously looked at for being Englands number two or three. Is it me or do Norwich always seem to have good keepers!! We seem to bring the best out of any keeper at CR, hmm not sure what that says about us lol.
i personally don't think he is good enough for england. however, is he really any worse than what has been picked in the past year up front? zamora? crouch? davies? heskey i think as a player who has performed wonders on limited ability he has probably earned a chance for his country, at least a call up, but i do not think he is good enough to make progress in the england set up, sadly. would be lovely to see him pick up a cap though and my word, he'd certainly try a lot harder than some of those so-called internationals!
Sorry gossy but if you feel Ruddy is good enough for England what are your thoughts on Fraser Forster? Far better keeper than Ruddy. Ruddy for me is very average and you cannot compare him to Woods, Keelan, Green...etc. Respect your opinion but I feel that our lack of clean sheets has got to be linked to the GK at times. Some will say look at the save at Liverpool a point saved. I would respond look at the 3 he let in against Blackburn (especially the last 2). Good job Holt scores slightly more than Ruddy lets in.
sorry surgeryman but for me forster isn't as good as ruddy. they are both pretty similar in their strengths, shot stopping basically, but ruddy is much better with his feet than forster. both have weaknesses, especially collecting crosses, well, when to come for them, but forsters kicking was absolutely abysmal and doesn't seem to have improved since being at celtic. its an issue for us because we utilise our keeper to keep possession and ruddy is a much better distributer than forster as well as being decent on both feet. forster was so shaky it was unbelievable. ruddy is the more reliable keeper overall. both had outstanding games, both had disappointing games and neither are great keepers but both are decent, but definitely ruddy over forster for me, and indeed for england i expect in the near future. forster won't get a look in for england at all.
Andy Caroll has scored 5 goals in 27 appearances for Liverpool since his £35m move from Newcastle (4 of which have been this season in 19 appearances), yet he has been picked to play for England, compared to Holt who only cost a fraction of the £35m paid out for him and has scored more goals (7) in less premiership appearances. Conclusion if Caroll is worth £35m and plays for England, yet scores less goals for Liverpool than Holt does for Norwich (and plays more games) Holt must be worth more than £35m and should play for England!!!
Andy Carroll must be brilliant because he was signed by King Kenny who never makes a mistake, cost £35M plus wages and he plays for Liverpool who live in the past. I went into a sports shop in Winchester for laugh and asked them if they had the latest Norwich shirt. The look on their faces was worth millions. Sums up football to me.
I think there were alot of doubts about Ruddy at the start of the season and heard Forster talked about so much I was about ready to tear my hair out. The problem with Forster is 'yes' he did have a good spell for us, but at the time was really trying to prove himself, every other club he has been at, he has either sat on the bench or the fans have moaned how terrrible hes been. Personally I think I was the only one who was pleased when we didnt look to sign him. as for ruddy, he has been solid this season. Ive been surprised how quick he is to come off his line and has been an exceptional shot blocker. Yes he should not have been beaten at his near post in one game i cant recall, but overall his saves, catching and distribution have all been good. I certainly dont have my heart in my mouth everytime a ball is lofted into the box, and he seems to amit that confidence to his defence. now if you look at the current crop of England keepers there arent that many!! How many potential England keepers played in the premiership over christmas, I think four off the top of my head. Are you saying Ruddy isent up there with them for consideration??
agree with the above! forster is a massively overrated goalkeeper based on half a season at norwich in league one. first half of the season he gave away silly goals, penalties, kept getting sent off and couldn't kick the ball for love nor money. yes he performed miracles in the run in but that was league one for heavens sake. celtic fans don't rate him at all - opposing teams in scotland see him as the weak link at celtic because of his poor kicking and failure to ever come for a cross. as i've stated numerous times, ruddy is far from perfect but he is definitely the better of the two as it currently stands. both have good potential but ruddy is the only one of the two who have a prayer of international honours and based on this season and the competition, he really should get a call up.
Talk about Chinese whispers! I start a thread about Grant Holt for England, and we end up with a comparison debate between Ruddy and Forster!
I agree Supers, I loved Forster when he was here, but Ruddy is our own keeper, he has improved beyond all recognition, and he's far superior to Forster! If we went for Forster now, it would only be as back-up to Ruddy! Rudd is plenty good enough for that!
