Even though we've been top continuously since 18th September, we've never been top of any of the month individual 'league tables'. That is to say, we've never been the best Championship team (points-wise) in any full month. August 1. Brighton 13 (Points Per Game 2.60) 2. SAINTS 12 (PPG 2.40) 3. Derby 12 (PPG 2.40) ... September ... 3. Hull 8 (PPG 2.00) 4. SAINTS 7 (PPG 1.75) 5. Leeds 5 (PPG 2.33) ... October 1. Birmingham 13 (PPG 2.60) 2. SAINTS 11 (PPG 2.20) 3. Leeds 11 (PPG 1.83) ... November ... 2. West Ham 13 (PPG 2.60) 3. SAINTS 12 (PPG 2.40) 4. Bristol City 11 (2.20) ... December (so far) ... 13. Barnsley 6 (PPG 1.20) 14. SAINTS 5 (PPG 1.25) 15. Cardiff City 5 (PPG 1.25) ... SOURCE I know this stat is largely irrelevant as we're top of the league that counts, but I just think it's interesting to see and shows how important it is to be consistent in this division (which we have been, barring our bad Decmber). We've been in the top 4 best teams every month other than this one.
The good thing about this stat is that it shows we are consistent, unlike most other teams. Only Leeds feature more than once other than ourselves.
Yes, you are right. Stats can be misleading... especially when you are working at the same time and not paying proper attention, sorry cdvctz!
We certainly need a great month in January to make up for December. Also we really need to win our last game before 2012
Yep, interesting stat, possibly because stats can be interesting. I'm not sure that Saints apparent inability to be top at anything, but be top overall, is the interesting bit though. Possibly more so that rivals can't seem to take advantage. One question you may have answered though is why Adkins doesn't win Manager of the Month as many times as we expect him to. There are obviously more deserving managers, for those individual months.
if we win our game against bristol.. it would probably move us to 10/9th and thats not a bad place considering our blip and injurys.
And thank the lord that he doesn't win it. If you don't win it, you can't be hit by the curse. It happens time and time again, and is currently happening right now to Mackay and Cardiff. With any luck, Mowbray will win it sometime next week, and the curse will strike yet again. (I think I'm correct in saying that the only one Adkins has ever won with us was the final one of last season, when of course there was no time left for the curse to kick in)
Tbh, WHU are a little too near for that preferred scenario, and we play them in February. I'd like Cotterill [Forest] to win it in Feb, Andy Thorn [Coventry] in March and Dean Saunders [Doncaster Rovers] in April. That would be peachy. Adkins can be Manager of the Season.
True, but on the other hand, we could do with them having a bad February - especially because we visit Upton Park in Feb.
Isn't being Manager of the Month for February because their results have been great in February then..? Or am I missing something..?
But you win the award the following month, which is what I think Chilco was referring to (ie Sam picks up the award in the first week of Feb - like Mowbray will probably do in the first week on Jan very soon - for his work in Jan)
He would be given the award for January Manager of the Month in February. I assumed that was what Chilco meant, maybe I'm wrong and he meant the February Manager of the Month (which would be awarded in March)!
