Nope - the same coach made Ben Foster an England international in two years when on loan. Previous to that the highest level Foster had played at was league two with Wrexham but Chamberlain improved him.

The problem is not with the coaching but with Loach. Chamberlain can teach him how to come for crosses all day long but Loach's problem is in his head - decision making under pressure during the games. That is where he falls down re crosses etc.

Chambo can do all he likes on the training field but when Loach crosses the line he has to be mentally strong and prepared to come for corners with confidence. And he doesn't do those things. It is up to Loach to have the right mentality. Some players just aren't mentally strong and i think he is one of those. Maybe he should see a sport psychologist.

agreed, but he is better than he has been..far better...it would be good if he got some credit for his improvement, instead of constant barracking for his mistakes...

Agreed H , he is coming back, but is still costing points in the process! ,why not let a sports shrink at him , Alec has been goalie coach for many a moon, maybe its time to think of getting someone in to work with Alec but offer fresh eyes and ideas!
I still rate Loachy but he is defo still work in progress! after a fast start has fell back a bit!

He does need to get more physically imposing as well , so when he does come out for a cross , people bounce off him and not the other way round!

We have certainly had some great keepers over the years: Rankin, Coton, James, Miller, Chamberlain, Foster - not to mention Jennings (alas before my time). Other than TC, I'd say Kevin Miller was the pick of that pretty decent bunch.

Of course, we've also had the 2 Perry's - Digweed and Suckling - who along with Richard Lee were hardly God's gift to goalkeeping.

SL? Who knows, personally I think he could still come good - elsewhere if not for us.

We must have sports psychologists on the staff already, if not why not? Watch the olympics and our successful events are all made by psychologists starting with the cycling.....

It's probably not the "macho done thing" in football to have that sort of coaching - but for a keeper it is essential...

Back to his best? I'm beginning to think that this is his best!

At 23, he is young in goalkeeping terms and has more time than most to learn/improve. But has he ever actually shown an inkling that he has that basic requirement of goalkeepers - the ability to command his box?

If he hasn't got it now, I venture to say that he won't ever have it. :(

I asked Jon Marks if we had a sports psychologist and this is what he said

@bexdex I don't know if there is someone full-time now but I would be surprised if there wasn't anyone they could call upon at certain times
