Just seen him interviewed and moaning about his defensive crisis. Hope the post about Jose signing an extension is right. Don't want Newcastle sniffing around!

He's interested in James Tomkins apparently - presumably they would have crossed paths at West Ham when Pardew was there. (Would be good for us actually, Newcastle helping to weaken West Ham).

West spam will replace him with 5 new players <laugh>

I'm sorry but there is no way that Jose would last 5 minutes in the Premiership, especially in Newcastle's defence!!

He's obviously struggled for form back in the Championship this season so I think he'll be staying put with us, hopefully to improve significantly in the second half of the season.

In fairness to Fonte, I think he has been carrying a niggling injury this season. Him and Hooiveld are forming a really good partnership.

You're right, he has. Personally, I don't think he's been playing that badly either, and I think he'd do fine in the PL, though nothing exceptional. I think Hooiveld's lack of mobility might get caught out occasionally, but he has other strengths. In fact, all of the team have proven to be of very good Championship quality, which surprised me a bit. Whether most of them can jump to the next level, I don't know. The only ones I'm reasonably certain about are Lambert, Lallana and Fonte. The rest could raise their game..? It's a tough ask. But then again, if a lot of the Norwich lads can do it, why not Saints..?

The criticism of Jose this season amazes me. He had a bad half against Reading and slipped once against west ham to give them a chance when he was good the rest of that match. We all say what a good partnership he and Jos have created and I believe it takes two to tango, so Jose must be doing ok.

I think it's time people got off his back.

Good to see someone else who doesn't think Fonte has been terrible. I don't understand it personally, same for the people who immediately got on Fox's back.

You can count me too. I'm baffled as to why Fonte is being considered to be some kind of defending duffer, when from what I can see, he's actually doing very well, considering he's playing better opposition week in-week out, and with a bit of a foot injury [source Jos Hooiveld]. In fact, I believe he may be out against Palace for that very same reason.
