How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

Churchill even served on the Western Front after his sacking from first Lord of Admiralty (or whatever it was called <whistle>) though considering his requests to his Mrs for more food hampers he still ate very well

How times have changed ...

"We will fight them on the beaches ...

... and is my Deliveroo here yet?" ...

IIRC correctly, Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee and Harold MacMillan all saw military service before becoming politicians and eventually PMs. Did it make them better or worse PMs? Who knows? Attlee and MacMillan were both decent compassionate men, Churchill less so.

I believe for the time they're from near every bloke in the country had some military service

Weren't all 3 of them aristocrats too?

Rumour mill in full force regarding an apparent Burnham cabinet.

Most predicting Ed Miliband will be chancellor, Reeves will stay in the cabinet.

I wonder if Reeves knows that yet, on sky she said that Andy Burnham is clear and committed to her fiscal rules she has set out in 2024 - I don't think she'll take it too well if she gets shifted out.

Miliband as chancellor would be an unmitigated disaster.

His carbon neutral obsessions are the main reason we have the highest energy costs in Europe, despite also sitting on one of the largest reserves of natural gas and oil in Europe.

I genuinely CK haven't seen you ever suggest a single British politician isn't a disaster.

Miliband is the best qualified for the role. He's a senior politician who served as Treasury minister before.

Getting him out of the environment and energy office is the best way to bring in fresh ideas to that office.

Reeves apparently to be kept in the cabinet which is a bit of an endorsement of her as a politician.

I find the whole argument that Miliband has been a "disaster" because he's introduced net zero policies as the Net Zero minister is ludicrous.

If you're the PM and you think the Net Zero policies are costing the country too much, stop them, but Miliband himself is just doing his appointed role.

He's ironically the only Minister in the cabinet apart from Mahmood who hasn't U-turned constantly, he was told to introduce Carbon Net Zero and he's working on it.

Again, I can't stress enough, his job title is the "Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero"

He's not the "Secretary of State for Bringing Down the Cost of Living"

Ironically yet another example of mismanagement under Starmer.

The whole of Europe is suffocating in extreme heat, and you're complaining about reducing carbon emmisions? I guess you must have aircon in your mansion in Welwyn Garden City, North London then?

And yet the transition to renewables is an absolute must, both to bring down emissions and to secure our own energy needs.

We produced 52.5% of our electricity from renewables last year

That's a massive leap forward from the days when we used to produce it all from burning coal

If you want to factor in cost, the cost of trying to mitigate against the effects of climate change are going to dwarf what it will cost to transition to carbon neutral technologies.

We've been bombing the **** out of Gaza, Iran and Lebanon, while the Iranians have been lobbing missiles all over the shop and blowing up tankers. Russians and Ukraine are lobbing stuff at one another, and have been for years now. We must be seeing more space rockets launch than ever seen before, test ones, failed ones, ones that succeeded, burn baby burn, and the little ole UK thinks our net zero will save the planet somehow. <laugh>

Didn't you recently buy a vehicle that was a petrol guzzler, not even bothering to think about how much it would burn. You've also previously owned gas guzzlers and not forgetting the ****ing air miles you clock up to go and see cars you like on the net. You are one of the worst contributors and think that by cycling your bike to see a bunch of rocks that you are somehow saving the planet lol.
