Thought the owners said we will only be buying players for/ready to play in the 1st team? I’m happy with that, no one should be guaranteed a start if we want to progress.

Yeah and the club also said that they won't be buying/strengthening the midfield.

Shea Charles is a midfielder and will not displace Ampadu or Stach in the 1st XI, so that's wrong on two counts. Unless you think that our rumored £20 million bid was pure fiction

No, I believe they want to buy him because he is ready to play for the 1st team when the inevitable injuries occur to Ampadu & Stach during the season. If he signs, aI lso think Shea Charles has enough confidence to believe he can stay in the side, it’s not really such a difficult concept I’m hoping to describe is it?

You alluded that the owners have said that "we will only be buying players for/ready to play in the 1st team"
By that I assume you mean the starting or 1st XI.

That being the case, they were not 100% truthful as Shea Charles will NOT go straight into the first XI, but be a bench option instead for premiership games.

I like longstaff and think he did well for us when fit. Not sure Farke fancies him though (cue German sausage jokes) . Was a bit part player at the end of the season. Agree he traded squad player at Newcastle for squad player here. Wouldn’t surprise me if he wanted out.

Think that’s your assumption Poly. Ready to play means ready to play, doesn’t have to mean guaranteed starter if everyone’s fit

Ready to play just means that they're fit

Regardless of club statements that no-one is guaranteed a place in the starting XI, I think that Farke will know, by the end of this transfer window, what his best team is.

I would be very surprised if we bought Charles and he made the starting XI against Forest, and both Ampadu and Stach were fit.

Sorry, but I seriously doubt that. Longstaff can't play as a No 10 (at least not to Premiership standard) and there's no way he's getting past Stach or Ampadu. There is just no place for him in the 1st XI.
Nah, I don’t see him as a 10 but can see Farke playing Ampadu holding with Longstaff and Stach just in front.

Can you see that happening if we get a real No10, like the club have stated is a priority, like Julian Brandt ?
We've got to get one yet. Farke has stated he wanted one for the last few windows. Brandt isn't the answer either, he is massively inconsistent.

Just my opinion.

Sure, I certainly don't want to go into next season with Aaronson as our No10. Though last season Farke did seem to prefer him at No10, over Longstaff playing as a No 8.

DCL was massively inconsistent when at Everton too.

Right now Longstaff is just a squad player, and I doubt that he'll get many starts in Premiership games.

So Wilson has signed. There's your 10. I'm happy with him on a free. Do think he's a bit streaky...you can't continue scoring wonder goals, but offers something different to what we have and although the age profile for his type of player isn't perfect and wages will be astronomical he's good for squad cost ratio leaving funds available elsewhere. Easy to see why they looked at him and Brandt.

I'm not sure Wilson is a No10, Farke supposedly does like left and a right sided wingers operating together....however this smalls of Farke wanting to play three up front in a 4-2-3-1 formation that he generally played before switching to three at the back in December last year.

As I said on another thread:

Okafor.................................................New Striker...............................Wilson

...............................................................New No 10

...........................................Ampadu........................................Stach

Gudmundsson.....................Bijol...........................................Rodon........................Bogle

............................................................New Goalkeeper/Darlow ?

Darlow and Cairns are reported to have agreed new deals too.

Wilson is the player who will push Aaronson, it means we can also cash in on James if we had a buyer. I’ve a feeling it will probably be Gnonto who is sold

Is Wilson just to act as back-up for Okafor (or vice versa) ?

I don't think so, I think the plan is to play with both of them and, IMO, this means:
Farke is planning to play a 4-2-3-1 formation

And if you are going to play with two wingers, why on Earth would you sell their back ups (Gnonto and James) ?

I think definite proof of what formation Farke is planning on using for next season, is the recruitment and any sales of the center backs.

Last autumn farke said he felt we were a winger/10 ie someone who could cover both positions shy of what he wanted in the summer window. We had been in for Wilson who pretty much fits the description. So i can see that Wilson could be utilised in a variety of positions, across a front three or in a three behind a central striker wide or centrally - but he can has and does play 10 should we require one. He likes to play wide right and cut in on his left. He’s our ‘more creative’ option for Aaronson despite being left footed.

And a set piece guy too.

I think you’re getting a little obsessive about this formation or do you just want us all to say you’re right?
