Society has changed its views of life. People want everything now, and if you do not deliver your popularity can last less than a year these days... its a worry going forward.
Think this is fair. Instant gratification is the name of the game. No one has any patience or any tolerance at this point in time.

Worth noting there has been very little immediate reaction in the markets with the resignation announcement. Initially the pound strengthened and UK borrowing costs dropped.

Its early days but compare that to the previous volatile changes and it suggests that investors aren't too worried about who will replace him.
Already priced in.

Curious as to Andy Burnham is, I've looked at his record.

Working class background but beat the system to get a Cambridge degree.
Most of his jobs safter graduating were with Socialist political organisations, till he got elected to Parliament.
He made fairly spectacular progress climbing the greasy pole, which peaked when he was made Culture Secretary.
Following Gordon Brows defeat he was one of the five runners and he finished second bottom.
Ed Milliband won.
He tried again in 2015 but Jeremy Corbyn won that one.
His own views seem to have mirrowed whoever was Party Leader, so its difficult to pin a label on him.
In 2017 he lerft Parliament when he was elected as Mayor of Gteater Manchester, where the gensral view is that he did a good job. (REMINDER- the same could be said of Boris as Mayor of Greater London!!!).

What will he face as PM, and is this the CV of someone who gan do it?

The problems are blindingly obvious.
The Wealfare bill is too high.
As a Country we can not afford it.
We are said to be the highest taxed country in Europe, (some say The World), already.
We need to spend much more on Defence. (And spend it rather more wisely than is the current norm).

This is just some quick jottings about some of what is in store for our new PM.

Anybody who actualy wants the job is either nuts, or has an ego beyond belief. :emoticon-0130-devil

It’s ok because people re already dismantling Burnham! Pointing out his errors in the past etc.

In every general election I have voted for the party with the manifesto which best suited me. Since I was old enough to vote.

Whilst that was labour in my younger days, less so recently. That will continue to be the same going forward.

And I can guarantee it will never be Farage!
That is how democrecy is meant to work - people voting for the person in their area who they feel represents their views the most. Whatever democresy has meant to represent since Brexit - cretinus ****ers who **** all over our country's prosperity over an imigration policy which had been ****ed for decades - its hard to work out where we really go. Unless people take a stand against the media and its relentless and unfair manner which each leader is championed before victory and abused there after we don't stand a chance. I think most of us with a reasonable amount of intelligence realise we aren't the world power we were but we have a hell of alot of knowledge on how the world works. If we can just stabilise our own situation we could once again become a power of good and trust amongst the hideous arseholes who change the world's direction from day to day.

I think people will wait if promises are fulfilled, but the manifesto was ripped up within days of his appointment and the constant U-Turns were embarrassing, lie after lie and his control of the MSM was a disgrace. He could have fell on his sword with a little bit of dignity but had to be dragged kicking and screaming. He is the worst prime minister in my lifetime bar Thatcher. He was totally out of his depth. He went after the wrong people and rewarded the countries scroungers, once you turn on your own people its only a matter of time. He got what he deserved.

Well,it's definately good for the party.
Hope so mate, don't really know much about his politics but he has a more modern image the youth will be able to get behind. My niece in Manchester, manager in the NHS, seems to think the sun shines out of his arse. Hope she's correct but think he may be a lot further left than most expect, which would be a good thing for me. The excessively wealthly of this country/world need to put under alot more pressure to do more for the good of society. No problem with been wealthy but theres only so much anyone needs.

Two gaffs already from Burnham each side of his train journey from Manchester to London today, referring to looking forward to being swarn in as mayor of Makerfield

On that line of thinking, will Burnham be a lot less encumbered than the usual people that come to power?

Less in debt / in control by others than Starmer.

Remains to be seen how left he is. I think he's too intelligent to further stifle enterprise and capital flow, understanding that easing will be required to to create growth, but....we'll see.
We have been here before, but Europe got in the way. It's my opinion that,if at the turn of the century we'd been able to find a way to remain in the EU,but opt out of the Freedom of Movement principle,Brexit wouldn't have happened. Our towns and cities have been transformed into different places. Everyone rattles on about the economics of Brexit....but,at the time,it had little to do with that....it was a protest vote about the cultural effect of membership...no-one really believed the idiot Boris and his bus. And,of course, having happened, what it required was strong, visionary, powerful leadership to make it work........very sadly completely lacking from everyone at Westminster.
Still, it's far too late now. This country is ****ed and it's my judgement that Burnham won't make any material difference.

No idea on that, I honestly don’t know much about him. I’m just pleased Starmer is gone.
I agree with Blond though, people want instant change and whoever it is will have to act quickly.
We need strong leadership and someone with balls to stand up to Trump and Putin, they didn’t take Starmer seriously and let’s be honest much of the country couldn’t. He couldn’t lie straight in bed
