We don’t want a likeminded replacement though. We want somebody better. Giles is not a premier league standard defender.

As good as Giles is going forward, defending isn’t his strong point. All the decent prem teams are putting a 6’2 almost CB at full back. Spend 20 on someone like that, make us more defensively solid and it makes sense to recoup 8mil.

He had a pretty steady season by all accounts, 2 assists and 3 goals, we'd be looking to pay at least double what they did for him.

Wasn’t aware of it until a few years ago. I was at a pop quiz in a pub.A few of us were on equal points so the question master kept playing the beginnings of more obscure songs. I crashed out on this one as did everyone else except a lad I knew who was older than me, he will have been 14 when it came out whereas I was 10, knew it. Like you these things are stored away in the memory bank. Never know when they will come in handy.

Regarding this £6m PSR shortfall, that’s actually a net figure. So say we sell Joseph for £6m it would only knock £3.5m off the ‘debt’ as the £2.5m we paid for him wouldn’t count towards it.

I’ve said it before, but barring urgently needing to do so to balance the books and avoid the sanctions, I really don’t see much business sense in selling Giles.

Sell him now and we get a fee commensurate with a decent Championship left back and then have to pay out more to get a Premier League one. Keep him and he either makes the step up and increases in value, or worst case he doesn’t but is still worth the same as a proven Champ player.

You could say the same for Joseph and Crooks.

I think we signed Joseph on a three-and-a-half-year contract and he has two years left so the book value remaining on his contract is around £1.5 million. That means if we sell him for £6 million, the profit is £4.5 million rather than £3.5 million.

Interest in Giles certainly explains the rumoured interest in Tymon. Very similar profile. Year on year Tymon has arguable been more consistent.

Would be a shame see Giles go as he has earned his revival and chance at the PL.

Id be gutted to sell Giles and replace with Tymon. I dont think we should sell anyway but to replace with someone just the same that might not fit in with the rest of the team seems utter madness
