New Zealand are the lowest ranked team, you’ll remember that the best team in the whole wide world struggled to a 1-0 win against them the other week <cheers>

Qatar already showed yesterday that these so called “minnows” are not to be taken lightly, you can’t just turn up and expect to win by 4 and 5 goals against these teams fighting for everything.
Every team is fighting for everything. Croatia tried really hard last night but we just brushed them aside. That was our supposedly hard match.

I really do not like the head-to-head way of deciding the group tables. Already a few teams have nothing to play for in their final game.

Different ways of looking at it, if you are trying to avoid dead rubbers then its not a good look, but in terms of the right teams going through then head to head is a fairer metric.

In Group D, Turkey have lost twice and not even scored a goal yet, couldn’t beat or score against 10 man Paraguay. Using goal difference there would be a chance that with a win in their last match, they could go through at the expense of Paraguay or Australia, and considering those 2 teams already beat Turkey, they don’t deserve to go through ahead of them.

I agree. Goal difference should be the way to decide groups. If that were the case, Turkey could still go through with a big win over USA. At least that would keep it interesting to the last.
