In by elections, governments usually do badly because voters want to protest.

If Reform won then it would be a bad result for the government, losing a seat, but a good result for Stalin 2.0 as it would stop Burnham from knifing him in the back to take his job.
If Burnham won then it would be a bad result for Stalin 2.0 as Burnham would be in a position to knife him in the back.
Loony Left millionaire Carol Vorderman was the chief Burnham cheer leader organising loony tactical voting, hence all the other loony Left options doing so badly – votes donated to Burnham.
Now Manchester needs to find a new loony Left loser for Mayor. How about the dolt that quit the Makerfield seat so that Burnham could have it? Or Carol Vorderman?

Does anybody know how it went for Liebour and the SNP in the Aberdeen South by election? Somebody was campaigning on saving jobs in the oil and gas industry, one of Aberdeen’s biggest employers, but it was not either of the loony parties.

Quite a large share of Burnham’s vote came from tactical voting, allegedly organised by loony Carol Vorderman. The last poll I saw excluded Don’t Knows and Refusing To Votes giving Liebour 49% and Reform 39% on not a very large sample. The Liebour share of the vote went up by nearly 10% whilst the Lib Dems and Dave’s Bigger Breasts Party went down by a total of nearly 10% – coincidence, obviously.

You would have been better off consulting Albert Einstein about getting a smart meter fitted so that the Establishment can ration your energy when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining. Your favourite statues will be standing in the dark.

How do you know that a large share of Burnhams vote was down to tactical voting? ...

Let's be honest - that's simply your opinion ... and preference

A more rational explanation is that he was the Labour candidate... in a Labour seat.
