Azaz is a marmite player - a lot of people seem to dislike him and those that like him don't get why the others don't.

Discussion in the stand around me was similar to on here too (he's marmite).

I just think he doesn't ever "look" busy and he seems to lose the ball a lot but that's because (IMO) he's always in a position to receive the ball and try to do something with it and a lot of the times it won't come off.

He's a starter for me unless injured. He'll get double figures again this season and his assist count means others are scoring too.

Said it before but it's similar to the Adam Armstrong situation. Sure, Adarma's numbers were very good too, and yet... you just feel he needed four big chances in order to score once, and therefore maybe he should have been bagging more. It could mean the difference between finishing 4th and finishing 1st.

How many of those players were midfielders? And you can take away the 13 will still games as we were gash
That's ridiculous. Any team can argue that they had bad runs of form. I remember Azaz missed basically an open goal at home to Boro. Was that Still's fault? What about the advantage Azaz has playing in a team on an unbeaten run of 20+ games with the likes of Scienza and Larin playing alongside him?

And Azaz is not just a 'midfielder'. He's our CAM. After the striker, he should be getting the most goals.

Another young player not learning from others who left us way too early. And only 14. Madness

Probably right with Armstrong but isn't that the difference between a good championship player and a good PL player. They both try to do the same things but one needs a few goes at it to pull it off and other needs just one.

Azaz is a good championship player and he'll get enough chances to succeed and the fails don't hit so hard.

I also don't think goals will be as hard to come by as people think - Azaz was our joint top league scorer (beat Armstrong on assists) with 11 last season.

Stewarts league goals/game would have net him 14 goals last season if he had played the same number of games as Azaz (if my source data is right), Armstrong would have had 17, Larin's would have him at 22. plus we got goals from the other midfielders (not you fellows) and well into double figures from the defenders too.

so really what we need is to replace armstrong (as we didn't) and stewart first and then look at competition in midfield (I'd argue defence before midfield too)

He is definitely a marmite player and can be that in one game.
On his day he is extremely talented and can spot passes that others can’t see, let alone make, yet on the same day he can’t control the ball or hit a short pass.
He’s the best we have in that position but, for me, it’s his ability to become Finnvisible :emoticon-0105-wink: that frustrates me. He goes through periods in some games when I actually forget he’s on the pitch.
I still think that Matsuki could fill in for him in some games.

My issue with Azaz is that he’s a complete passenger when we don’t have the ball. His pressing and defending is just not there in 9/10 games. With the ball he’s a decent enough player but that will never do it in a top team.

Not going to complain if we improve on him / add competition. Just don't outright agree with the notion that because he's not top drawer he's failing and we should drop him / bench him.

He was our best attacking player in what made a difference - putting the ball in the net. He also played far more games that the strikers did as he had no real replacement / rotation and that will hit towards the end of the season.

I dont think it helped that he was playing almost every game and carrying an injiry towards the end of the season. His off the ball output would likely increase if we could rotate him like we did with the rest of the midfield.

Would like us to look at Bobby Clark as a rotation option with Azaz. Sounds like he’s not too fancied at Salzburg and might be open to the move, was on loan at Derby last season.

They've just appointed Rohl as manager so he may want to take a look at him.

But if every player played the same number of games as Azaz, there would be a whole lot more scoring 12+

Probably three times as many.
But if every player scored more than 12 goals, there would be a whole lot more scoring more than 12!

Sorry not taking the piss, it just popped into my head and tickled me!
