It's actually recruitment since Ashworth left onwards, which has been absolutely dreadful.

Brighton? yeah you'll play..Newcastle? Howe would want the player to lick his arse before he even signs.

We'll never get anywhere with this manager at this rate.

We'll lose out on muñoz next, and we'll end up signing the crap that Howe's really after... It's clear we're going to endure another summer of embarrassment.... Losing out to Brighton... It's utterly depressing, but we're calling too many shots for such an undesirable club and location.

Edwards put out an article about new transfer approach including profiling, buying and nurturing young players. Also were likely to offload one more big money player, likely Tonali.

Does that mean Howes out?

Not arsed about Tonali.. If they can get big money for him, that's fine.

It won't surprise me if Guimareas leaves this summer though.

Actually I expect Howe will be keen to take the money for Hall.. He's never liked him as his left back imo.

On one hand we've got people saying all the news is inaccurate, and on the other hand we've got people saying Wilson has changed everything. Unfortunately both of those positions are based on nothing but thin air.

So far we've done close to nothing guys! a French league 2 GK is close to signing who will probably start behind Pope next season.

The links have been encouraging, but personally I don't think anything will change. Howe has his targets and he'll pitch for them. He can say yes, or no to suggestions, and that's the bottom line. I've even heard Eddie Howe actually say the recruitment strategy won't be changing... That is the best evidence available.

It appears to me people want to use the transfer links they like to bolster their argument on recruitment strategy, but when the player goes somewhere else they say it's all fake news, and everyone should ignore the journalists. I'm sorry guys, but you can't have it both ways.

The transfer window will tell us the answers, and it hasn't even opened yet tbf.

Well obviously we can’t do that cos then we might have to actually sign him.

It’s a bit like El Mala of Koln. Price is known, player is superb, desperately need a left winger yet here Newcastle are doing nowt.

It's such a good job that you know so much about the day to day workings of NUFC behind the scenes. Journos have been trying for years to tap into day-to-day insider info.

The players not wanting to come is out of the clubs control. It's something some fans don't seem to understand, but just because Newcastle want a player and the price is known, doesn't mean Newcastle can walk into a shop and buy them.

The player can say no and other clubs can advise the selling club and player camp that they intend to make a bid themselves. Essentially players and selling clubs hold out.

Newcastle do appear to have interest in good players, but they also did last summer. That's not the issue.. The issue is the fall back signings are a big drop off in quality, so they need to try and find a market somewhere in between. That is obviously not going to be easy, but Ekitike to Wissa was a big drop off for example... Olise to Elanga even bigger... I refuse to believe there's not better options.... We don't know who the manager has said no to... I'd love to know that.

Wish Newcastle would break this **** show and issue cease and desist notices to the main instigators on twitter about using NUFC name etc. Bit extreme I know but cant stand that Pasta nonce etc.

Personally I think he's quite often just reporting the news he has and you and others just don't like it.

I've seen this phenomenon quite frequently over the years, but if a journalist says or reports things the fans like, they say it's a good report, however if a journalist reports something they don't like they insult the journalist, and say he's part of some weird conspiracy against the club.

Where the club have got it wrong is moving away from the transfers we did with the likes of Bruno and Isak - we went for those players after they’d had a small dip in their form. We got Tonali because most other clubs seemed to know he was in a bit of bother. But since then we’ve spent ludicrous amounts of time chasing players who’ve suddenly hit a peak like Huijsen, Olise, Sesko and were being outdone or we’ve ended up overpaying hugely for worse players who’ve grossly over performed like Elanga and Wissa.

Palestra, Munoz - these guys have just had superb seasons and are always going to attract better offers. I would be entirely unsurprised if we checked in on Bowen and DCL who would fall into the over performed and overpriced bracket. Young and unproven is nothing new for us, we paid a lot for Tino and Hall after all, so although It’s early days it just feels like nothing has or is changing which is so odd given where we’ve had the most success.

Yep, and the question is who the fall back options will be, because we'll inevitably fail to land our primary targets, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th choice targets , which is standard for most clubs outside the big club category.

Actually quite a lot was made of us missing out on targets last summer, but it's not uncommon. I'd ask the question, whether it's worth even bothering for some of the players they're going for? If there's interest from a big club is there any point?

Lets just hope this time the fall back options work out.... There's hope of that.

My son of 13 was championing Nico Paz last summer. Here we are today, he’s taken Como up Serie A and off to the World Cup. Hes now unattainable. I understand there’s a lot involved but we simply have to be getting these players earlier in their career or, to my point, at a point where they appear to stall. As they say form is temporary, class is permanent. Seems incredible to me that we didn’t even heed this basic advice last summer.

Look at the prices being quoted for Nusa and Diomande, because they’ve been decent this season. They may well go on to be better, they may not, but are in the spotlight and hugely desirable to many others.

Another busy day for Ross, Eddie and Andy.

Think I read somewhere that Bloom insists on having progression in place so Brighton don’t consider selling anyone until they know the replacement. Meanwhile Newcastle sell Gordon, announcing the fee, before starting the shortlist crossing out game, wondering why everyone’s asking for so much money…..

Don't worry about it... Soon we will sign a GK that will be Howed. This dude won't get a sniff.
