Investment is definitely needed, so from that perspective it's brilliant. I'd be amazed if due diligence wasn't done by us when selecting a partner, so now look forward to us really pushing on.

It'll be interesting to see what changes are made to the current structure and the summer recruitment should be really interesting. At last, one of the stalwarts of the womens game in terms of bringing through internationals, will have the financial clout and infrastructure to compete in the top flight again.

A couple of seasons ago, we played Man Utd in the cup at Eppleton. Ten minutes in, our keeper went down injured and required treatment. Ella Toone said something along the lines of "they're pretending they're injured already. Sad really". I took this as a slight, as if she was saying " little Sunderland". I asked her to show some respect. I reminded her that this club brought through Jill Scott, Steph Houghton, Demi Stokes, Lucy Bronze, Jordan Nobbs and Beth Mead. How many players have Man United brought through to the Lionesses? She didn't respond. I look forward to seeing her up here regularly on more of an even playing field.

Apparently, Durham Women's club has 21 days to find a suitable investor or they'll go under.

I've said for a while that they would struggle, as they are not linked to a top level men's club. It could play into our hands, as there are 2 or 3 that would improve our club, like Beth Hepple and Mollie Lambert, who have both played for us before. The players will probably all know our coaching staff too, so we might see a few jump ship.

With the new investment, this is probably the season we will go heavily for promotion to WSL and it's going to be interesting to see the calibre of players we are bringing in.

Yeah, it was on Facebook earlier. They had some investors lined up but it fell through. 21 days to find something else or they are gone.

As an outsider looking in, I don’t know the personalities and logistics but would make sense for Durham Ladies to amalgamate into SAFC given our recent investment and historic links with Sunderland and Durham.

We should just leave woman football alone.
