Lewandowski isn't the right player to bring in until we are in possession of wingers who can stretch the pitch and midfielders who can pass further than 5 yards without losing possession.

He is deadly in the box if others create chances for him, and even in his absolute prime he wasn't amazing at creating chances for himself (which is why I rate Kane as the better all-round player of the two, even if Lewa has been more prolific and much more successful).

We ain't solving all our problems in one window, so a certain amount of triage is needed. First things first is to sort out LW (hopefully not Savinho or Summerville), after that is the absolute nonsense going on in CM, after that is dealing with gaps left by players leaving. And that my friend is more than enough for one window, especially for a club as dumb as us.
Essentially no striker will be on the face of it unless we do somehow get Kane back who as you’ve said can fashion said chances for himself as well as others but that ain’t happening.

Lewandowski would represent an upgrade on dumb and dumber though and have a higher chance of finishing the few chances we do create. Richarlison probably finishes roughly one in four, Solanke about one in five. The top strikers do it inside three, even two.

Ornstein says we’ve had a bid rejected for van Hecke.

We trying to ensure we have about ten CBs next season or something?

For those who are allowing ENIC to hide behind the excuses that the stadium debt precludes the level of investment required to return us to being in CL contention (at least)...

Please recall that in the 2 years before his departure, COYS Denial was publicly acknowledging that the club was seeking external funding that would have allowed recruitment at an appropriately competitive level for the ex-Chairman's stated aims.

It's not that "it can't be done", it's that it wasn't done. It was bleeding obvious that the stadium overspend left the club under capitalised. I was saying it 7 or 8 years ago and I've never worked at boardroom level above family businesses, I e. Private LImited companies with turnovers that are a fraction of THFC.

ENIC spent too much on the stadium and haven't accepted that it will either hurt their profit on sale of the football club, or cost us any chance of fulfilling the alleged reason for building it in the first place.

TIME TO STOP PUTTING IT OFF. FIND THE INVESTMENT TO SERIOUSLY ADJUST OUR DEBT LEVELS OR JUST **** OFF ENTIRELY!

Assuming Romero and Dragusin are off this summer and Vuskovic is out on loan again, we do need two CBs in.

From what I've read, Van Hecke is seen as a preferred alternative to Senesi, so I think it would be either or and tbh Van Hecke represents the more ambitious move.

Liverpool also interested in Van Hecke.

Good. This will be an early test of ENIC's intention to fix things. Match Liverpool's bid. Find out early who the player prefers. If it ain't happening, move on quickly and identify another target, even if that means moving for Senesi on a free.

Is Wharton that good?

I sense a fair bit of cos he's English about the hype tbph.

Every time I see him play I just see an ok player.

Just an observation

Anyway

We need the Tonali's/Guemareas... ready to go, 1st team impact types. We should be hoovering this talent up...like those teams in the bracket above us do who mean business.

However, our owners haven't got a clue on building a meaningful squad that reflects the bullshit that comes out of their mouths.

I actually think Wharton’s superb.

Closest thing England has to a Sergio Busquets.

Mental Palace got him for £20m and we paid double for Gray who unfortunately so far is nowhere near the level Wharton is.

I reckon in a year or two Wharton will be at one of City/ Bayern/ Madrid etc.

Once again, thanks Ange

A Wharton/Gray pivot would actually be lowkey good

I honestly don't think it's as easy as that.
To get rid of the covenants on the stadium debt we need to repay the vast majority of it or at least get a guarantee for it. So we need an external investor who thinks that it's a good use of their money to pay off debt that only costs 4% interest or to put up a guarantee for more than a billion pounds as well as putting additional money in to fund player purchases. That essentially means someone who is sportswashing because there is no way such a strategy gives any return on investment.
This is also not caused from overspend on the stadium. The exact same problem would be there if the stadium cost much less.
The problem is simply that we've not caught up on spending with the other five and we've simultaneously gone through a patch of bad recruitment and massive injuries. There is nothing much that ENIC could have done about any of those issues.

I could be wrong, but from my understanding Senesi is a LCB to cover VDV and Van Hecke is a RCB to replace Romero/Dragusin.

In any case, it's good sign that we're going for players that the manager has worked with, and they actually seem keen to move. The Frank Mbuemo/Wissa/Norgard/Toney situation was a red flag in hindsight. Not one of his old players seemed to have any desire to move with him.

Maybe I don't pay the attention to his game play so don't appreciate the talent but I not seen him running a game Busquets style up until now.

Gray is very beige...not got the right fire in him to help us get to where we need to imo...maybe in a few years. I think if you are willing to give him a chance then Tel definitely deserves one.

Not so. They could put their own money up or sell up, if the terms for any external investment become overly egregious.

The fact is that ENIC have always chosen their fortune on sale above the fortunes of the football club. It's well over time for fans to call that out.

Get the money to clear the stadium debt or stop with the meaningless press releases about change, progress and success...because the club is now in a position where nothing will meaningfully change without it. We are stuck in a loop of failure, having had Daniel fritter away the position we were in 10 years ago.

GET THE INVESTMENT THAT WILL SIGNAL CHANGE...OR **** OFF.

I think Gray’s miles away at the moment from being good enough to start games in any pivot.

Bergvall’s the only young player we have that I think has a real chance of making it but I think even he could do with a loan away.

Every time I’ve seen him he’s oozed class. Sweeps us play and his passing range is mad, pings it like Tommy Huddlestone. MOTM in the conference final the other day, completely ran the show.

Yeah Gray just doesn’t do it for me. Works hard and all but this seems to be a recurring theme amongst those lacking the minerals - works hard. See Richarlison, Gallagher etc. Working hard is all well and good but you need the talent.

Tel don’t it for me either, mate. Better than Odobert but he’s just another of these wingers that over the course of the game rarely does anything. Might see one bit of skill and that’s it. Doesn’t have a brain either. Would get rid of the pair of them tbh, don’t see either amounting to a good Prem level winger/ wide forward.

I certainly agree about the press releases. Since they never mention the actual thing that is restraining us or what they are going to do about it then they either don't understand themselves or they are deliberately misleading the fan base.

The fact their statements boil down to "It was Levy, not us!" when their actions since September are starting to make large chunks of the past 25 years look like it was the board, not Levy that was the roadblock in transfer windows is getting increasingly hard to ignore
