I'm quite supportive of the Iraola move. I don't think he'll have a problem adjusting, we might not win the league, but at least it will be fun trying!

I'm feeling the same vibes as when we got Rodgers. He may be a transitional manager, we'll wait and see. I know most of the fans wanted Enrique, but that just ain't gonna happen, and the club wanted Nagelsmann, though that wouldn'd happen until next year, and that meant a year of treading water with Slot. Some fans wanted Alonso, but I clearly suspect the club draw the line at that.

So iraola it could well be, but here's my biggest concern with that - where does an even fully fit Isak fit into that plan? He clearly doesn't. Ekitike, yes, but Isak (and even Wirtz?) just don't play his style. And Macca? I tell you this, we'd better get Szobbo under contract now and build a side around him, as he (and possibly Gravy, Kirkez, Bradley and Rio) are the only ones we have on the books now who suit Iraolaball.

Lots of bits coming out now about Slot - take with pinch of salt I guess but no smoke without fire.

Talk of how he hasn’t been interested in the academy, disappointed with handling of Morton who was at max value after good loan at Hull only to not play for a year and lose value before being sold to Lyon.
Talk that Nyoni was questioning his role and slot didn’t see Rio as part of first team and wanted to loan him out.

Add in the fact his methods to avoid injuries was just less intense training, does seem an odd move if this was all not known by the board before they hired him.

I think Isak could actually play down the left over Gakpo, he drifts out there anyway. A lot of his bear goals for Newcastle came from him starting out on the left wing. He played there quite a lot for previous clubs. Not what we bought him for though.

Well, we can see that the team is nowhere near as fit as in the Klopp era, but, tbf to Slot, he's being saying for months that is what the hierarchy wanted (ie less burnout of players). Some may say he was getting his excuses in early, but, it has to be said, in his first season, when we won the league, we had significantly fewer injuries than the seasons before. That theory was completely blown up last term, when we had multiple injuries, and were completely outrun in 80% of games, and the football was slow and turgid.

Do wonder if the teams fitness was still hanging over from previous years and was perfect balance of 4/5 years of hard fitness built up alongside reduced training just meant we were fit and less injuries but then then that wore off over the summer with then a disturbed pre season just had a huge impact on the fitness

I think Isak could work if he could stay properly fit I think thats the main worry there is that I dont think he can stay fit for long periods of the season. Wirtz I am not so sure on he is a fabulous player but his best posistion doesn't really exist in English football at the moment. A bit like Coutinho where he is best as a 10 which doesn't work in 4-3-3. The problem we have is Ekitike isnt going to be fit until Christmas at the earliest.

"Sources indicate Virgil van Dijk was forced to shoulder significant leadership responsibilities off the pitch, with Slot leaning heavily on the club’s senior player group.
Liverpool insiders felt several academy prospects had become frustrated under Slot. One source claims the handling of Tyler Morton played a part in the club accepting a significantly reduced fee, while Trey Nyoni was also considering his future.
Slot initially wanted Rio Ngumoha sent out on loan and did not see him as part of his immediate first-team plans. Concerns over Slot’s approach to young players were raised internally during the season and ultimately helped seal his fate.
FSG began sounding out potential managerial replacements months before the final decision. Initial contact was made with Cesc Fàbregas in December, followed by first conversations with Andoni Iraola’s team in February.
Alonso was ruled out in March due to demands for greater control over football operations than Liverpool were prepared to grant.
Internal planning for a managerial change is believed to have accelerated at ownership level during the March international break, with poor results against Manchester City and PSG strengthening the case for action."

Same source says LFC are due to announce Iraola as new manager shortly.

Where did he ever fit in?

Wirtz has that energy and fight in him imo, just needs to right setup and permission to do it.

2 years seems to be the way Iraola likes to work. Not a bad thing I guess, works well for both as seems unlikely he’ll get poached by a bigger club - it’s more to do with his family and not being tied down for long time if they decide want to move back home etc.

I imagine if next season looks good will look to add a year extension on it.

Yeah, I think I mentioned earlier that I see him as a transitional manager. I truly don't think the football can be any worse, and I don't expect us to challenge for the title next season, or maybe even the season after that. If we're in a good place in 2028, he may well sign an extension: if not, we may well then be talking about Nagelsmann or Enrique (if we haven't fallen down to mid-table obscurity along with Chelsea). It is what it is, I suppose, but let's be honest - it would have been a hell of a lot worse with another season under Slot. :emoticon-0108-speec
