I was 100% certain we would play in the final. This is the first time I have now thought potentially not!

What a load of ****!

We may as well fudge the PSR rules as that would give us less of a punishment!

This would stop innocent players and innocent fans from a day at Wembley that we have earned!

The club will surely take legal action, could the players take legal action individually too? How about the fans?

This would bankrupt the EFL, surely they're not that stupid!!

Maybe it is a way of looking like it's on the table but it actually isn't?
I have re read the statement and I'm pretty chill about it.

I believe it is more about the date changing than the team.

Not sure why we can't just play the final the winner goes up and the punishment gets dished out sometime after.

We of course did this to ourselves (whoever sanctioned it, and the person that spied) but the reaction from Boro and the media has been appalling. The photo yesterday showed that someone in and around Boro has been briefing and putting pressure to try and sway an independent review, whilst also clearly publishing false information. Standing 150 yards from a training pitch with an iPhone did not stop Boro from failing to beat us over 210 minutes of football. The punishment they're calling for does not fit the crime.
Yep, the media frenzy is nuts, absolutely everywhere. I guess it’s indicative of a culture that wants to be offended, or on the side of virtue. I do keep having waves of anger towards Saints though, as seems so utterly unnecessary when things were so good.

Maybe it's part of the reason things have been so good :bandit:

Sadly I can’t go to the final as away that weekend, but just been talking to my sons who both said why would you pay out on a ticket that may not be valid for the game and EFL advising fans to read the t&c’s before purchasing. Think this may put a lot of fans of buying until the result of the hearing has been announced?

They won't promote Hull automatically, it's their showpiece fixture and they'll want it be played. They'd probably even owe Sky money if it wasn't.

I think you're spot on for the rest of it though.
I'm sure they want the game played but my thinking is that if they can only prove this as a one-off then I can't see us getting thrown out. I know the rules have changed but you're still jumping from a £200k fine (so basically nothing in football terms) for regularly spying on your opponents to being chucked out of a competition for doing it once and that doesn't seem likely at all.

If it can be proved we've been doing it regularly then expulsion becomes more likely. But then they have a different problem. Do you accept that what's already happened on the pitch has to stand or don't you? Because if we've been spying on teams regularly then other teams have a claim. Wrexham will say they should have been in the play offs. Millwall could even claim that they've been hard done by because they shouldn't have been playing Hull, who eliminated them. If we've been spying regularly and it's affected loads of teams then why are Middlesbrough being given special treatment?

In my worst case scenario - there may be a paper trail back to someone senior (probably JS) and that they're trying to work out if it's legally feasible to sanction us on a discussed strategy with no proof of us acting on it other than the Boro thing. I fear that will mean the end of Spors which could roll back into Tonda walking (into a job in Germany) in a Cortese/Poch style (frankly, that's always been my biggest fear from the beginning).

If they think they can sanction us on that, and aren't pacified by a major head rolling, then yeah, we could get kicked out of the final. Either way, not great, and if JS goes I do wonder if SR can survive that.
Crikey I was wondering what I have done. This are my initials

Again, there are clearly two issues at hand:

1. The original incident against Middlesbrough last week - We are clearly guilty, it's widely known that we won't contest it and the punishment won't be expulsion for an isolated incident and a first offence
2. Have Saints been cheating throughout the season? - If this is provable and can be traced back to orders from on high, then the gloves are off and our entire season is called into question

Gibson already knows that we are not contesting Point 1 but he also knows that it won't lead to us not being allowed to have the chance to carry on and win the playoffs and return to the Premier League. So now he has been frantically building a case around Point 2, trying to submit as much permissible and substantial evidence to prove that Saints have been up to no good all season and simply cannot be allowed to win the playoffs by the EFL

I am not concerned by Point 1 but Point 2 is concerning, especially with the reports re: the whistleblower and being confident in having significant evidence that will lead to our removal from the playoffs

And point 2 is where have no idea what's true and what has been exaggerated by Boro when leaking stuff to the press. And we won't know until the punishment is announced.

I should've added that if there is substantial, concrete evidence of season-long cheating and it being directed by someone very senior at the club, then we absolutely deserve everything that comes our way and I won't have any issue with us being removed. My disappointment will be for the players and fans who have been unconscious passengers in whatever the hell would've been going on inside the club

Absolutely correct, yes. Ultimately this will hinge on the strength of the whistleblower's statement, the supporting evidence to that statement and the support that other clubs do or do not offer in unearthing further evidence of potential cheating

Could we not argue . it was pretty ****e spying for the first 13 weeks of the season.......

If this is proven and we are kicked out of the play offs as a result I will not be renewing my ST unless I am certain all individuals associated with it have been removed from their positions at the club.
